Flowmaster 40 Vs Pro Sound?

So I went over to the muffler shop today and asked about replacing my stock muffler with a flowmaster 40 since I've had them in the past and liked them. The guy also said since flowmaster lost the patent on that model other companies make the exact same thing now a days. He showed me one called a pro sound and I held the thing side by side with a flowmaster 40 and there was no difference whatsoever. Even the insides looked the same. He also said some of these knockoffs have thinner walls but this one is good and he's had no problems with it.

 

So is there any difference? Since I don't wanna spend much money on this sway anyways I see no reason why not to just get the pro sound?

Yes, one is made by Flowmaster the other is made by I think Pro Sound.

 

 

Seriously, I'm with Dan on this one. How much difference is there in cost? Is it really worth going with the off-brand.

Well I can get the pro sound installed for $105 and I think the Flow installed is $140ish. I can't really see what the difference could be holding them side by side.

If you want the cheaper one, go for it. I just think you're running a pretty big risk of not liking the sound for only a $35 difference.

Ya you guys are right, mise well just get a flow. I've had them before and never disappointed. The reason I'm kinda being tight on money is cuz im going to college this fall but whats $35 these days anyway

I think that is a good call. For me, I would just not eat out a couple times and feel mor comfortable about they purchase. If you don't like it, it will cost you a lot more in the long run.

Hell, I'm trying to get 2 flowmaster super 44s added to my truck, 1 "40 series" aint enough

The pro sound muffler will sound a lot like the flowmaster. There shouldnt be much difference in the sound of both mufflers but the flowmaster will be loud all the time and the pro sound muffler will be quieter until you start getting on it. It will get louder at the higher rpms

I personally would stick with the Flowmaster. $35 isn't enough savings to me for something that is "supposed" to sound like the real thing. Consider that $35 an "insurance" I guess.

 

I think you will be very happy with a Flowmaster 40 on a V8. This past December I put a Flowmaster Super 40 on my 4.8L V8 Chevy and I love the sound. I like them loud so I don't notice drone very much; others might. I haven't had a chance yet to hear outside of it with someone else driving but the interior noise is perfect for me. Feels so much more like a truck.
