I was cutting the grass today and I hit something ....it threw a stick or rock into my mirror and cracked the glass - 2002 Silverado 1500 . Can I just replace the glass? If so, how? Or do I need to replace the whole assembly ....if so how is this done?

thanks for the help.

well, the book says to remove the little triangular plastic trim, then undo 3 nuts that hold mirror in place, disconnect connector for power mirror, if so equipped, and remove the mirror.

What about getting one of those new glass replacements? I've replaced two on our company trucks. (one Ford one Chevy) They use 3M foam double sided tape and stick on over the cracked glass. We got ours from a local auto glass company. I think the cost was about 25 bucks.

For full instructions and pics to remove the mirrors/glass on the gmt-800s:

But anyhoo if you just need to replace the mirror glass you can do that

without removing the whole mirror. The heated replacement mirror glass

is avail. from GM for around $35 bucks and it just pops out !

Or if you buy the replacement stick on replacement mirror glass that you

would find in the big box parts stores "HELP" parts section.
