Big Green Egg

I have several friends who have an Egg and swear by them. Everything that I have eaten off of one has been amazing. After looking at the Big Green Eggs for several months, I finally decided to buy one this week. I went with the big daddy...the XL! The biggest hesitation I had against buying one was giving up the convenience of a gas grill but it really takes no longer to heat up than a gas grill (about 10 min). I decided to break it in good today by smoking a little 7.5lb brisket on it. I started the brisket this morning about 8am and will let it smoke for about 8-10 hours. I'm having company over tonight to critique the brisket. :D

Anyway, here are a few pics I took of it this week after I got it home. I am working on table plans and will build one for it in the next month or so. In the meantime, I'll just leave it on the bricks.

So I guess I'm officially an Egghead now!

Never seen one of those before.... :D

 Yeah, it's definitely not mainstream at all. The company is very strict about not selling on the internet and only going through an authorized dealer. They don't do any advertising either...all word of mouth. It almost has an underground cult following.

Buddy of mine has something like that. It's much larger though and mounted on wheels. It's oval shaped. You can put a lot of stuff in that thing.

My almost in-laws have one. I love the thing, and if I wasn't spending money on my truck/guns (wow, do I sound like a Texan or what?) I'd get one. They're expensive but at the same time worth it. I also want to get one of these...

I got my dad one for father's day last year and it's Fwonking sweet. The closest thing you can get to actually welding up one yourself.

You guys are making me jealous...And hungry.

I am currently *between* grills. I got rid of both of my old ones when I left the last house...Anticipating buying new ones here...Because I now have a (covered) back patio that's the size of a small African nation.

Still don't have one though. :'(

I have one and I like it a lot. You can buy a ready made table that fits it perfectly. They also sell small models of the Green Egg for tailgaters. Different brands of natural charcoal give different flavors and are worth experimenting with. I still have a regular gas grill for variety as I don't think the Egg is good for all occasions and the flavor gets repetitious after a while. A worthy investment that should last a lifetime.

I think they are about 800 to 1000 dollars. They do not wear out and utilize the real charcoal (not the briquettes). You can vary the temperature and use it as a grill or smoker. When you close off the air the coals go out immediately so a bag of charcoal lasts a long time. Crappy grills are a waste of money IMHO. You can light these with an electric coil, propane torch, or lighting some wood in them. They are heavy ceramic.

These things have a cult following and their own forum of egg heads.

We have the medium BGE and love it. They definately aren't cheap, but quite possibly the last BBQ Grill you'll ever buy! The customer support is amazing as well, and the egghead forum is quite possibly one of the busiest on the web, virtually instant answers to any egg related questions!

Congratulations on becoming an Egghead!

Here's a pic of ours in the table I built, and the results of our 1st lo & slo Butt Roast...

Damn, you made me hungry and I just ate. Nice table. The one we bought is a similar design, but yours looks sturdier. I am a klutz with woodworking sadly.
