I Need Your Help With A Sub Problem.

Yo so i got my sound system in and its nice and all (pics soon yes) but my subthump box only has room for a shallow mount sub (and i went with this Alpine Type-S 10") It wasnt loud enough for me so my buddy and I turned the gain up a little bit on my 500 watt mono amp that is used just for the sub.. and then later when we were driving the sub blew out, and i wasnt really sure what happened but it def blew out. We were in a hurry since it was prom and stuff so we had a bunch of stuff to do and didnt have time to look at it. After prom we went back to this girl's house to what i thought was party since we had partied at her house before but her mom didnt let us and I had a 24 pack with my name all over it. but it is still unopened. anyways back on topic, so we never did look at it and i ended up coming home at 3 in the morning cuz the night was so gay since everyone went home or to sleep. this morning i woke up and started playing with it and stuff and i switched out the 10 sub and used my 12 sub in a box from my accord and it worked great. So what i want to do is this:

I want to somehow buy / make a 12" sub enclosure for an Alpine Type-E 12" because I just feel that the 10" shallow just wasnt good enough... and not to mention its ****ing BLOWN OUT THE DAY AFTER I GOT THE SYSTEM INSTALLED. What do you guys think happened? What should I do? What are your suggestions?

Edit: added the links to the subs.

Anything CAN be blown up. If you are wanting 2 12s worth of bass out of a single shallow 10, it's entirely possible that you overdrove it and burned it up. 50 watts can take out a 250 watt rated sub very easily if it is overdriven.

Sounds like you've cooked one.

Dukers,

Sounds like you probably fried the voice coil.

You have a 500 watt amp.

The shallow sub can only handle 300 watts..MAX and probably should be kept to NO MORE than 150/200.

From the website....RMS Power Range (Watts) 50-300

If you don't know what the term "CLIPPING" means...look it up.

It will fry your subs and speakers easily, even if they are running at far BELOW rated max output.

BTDT :) More than once.:lol:

got a bunch going on and i feel bad for basically throwing away my moms money.

I've fried a few. Youth is pretty enthusiastic. I loved loud music. I mixed sound for bands in my 20s and left a bunch of my hearing there. Now I am a little less likely to destroy what I have left and it saves the equipment.

LOL!!!!

Dukers, just look on line for a box for twelves, or like you said build your own, I have only ever blown one sub, in the many I have had...if you have an extended cab you can fit the amp behind the back seat against the back wall, just wrap the back in box carpet so you don't hear it bounce off the wall, I need to do that mine still, I also need to carpet and polyfill my box still but I haven't yet, but I will some day..

I don't think I have ever broken in a sub in before...they should come pre-broken in, I though that they ran testing sweeps that counted as the break in...
