Brake Controller Install Location

Next week the RV shop is installing a prodigy brake controller in my truck.

I hate driving a truck and the controller is in the way of leg room or I kick it getting in.

 

I was wondering if it could be installed in the center console ( i have the slt dash).

Before the shop installs it, anyone have any suggestions as to the best location so it wont get in the way.

hmmm it looks far enough out of the way and I will probally end up putting it where you did...I just dont want to see it....I only tow 4-5 weekends a year

I have mine just below the shifter, used one of the retaining screws on the lower dash panel for mounting location...I used the detachable mount so I can just unplug my controller (P3) and tuck the connector behind the dash...Does not interfere with my leg (only if I really lean foward or bring my leg up while sitting.

I put mine on the other side of that strut that comes down beside the accelerator pedal. This way there is no way at all it can get kicked. I use a Prodigy in a plastic pocket holder, and all I did was attach some heavy duty velcro between the pocket and dash, and attached the two pieces together. I then put a sheet metal screw (with wide threads) through the pocket and the plastic console and that held it snug. The harness is run up out of the way. This location is perfect for accessibility and visibility. Here is a picture.

i like that idea but I have a center console there....I may see if they can install it inside the console instead.

You can mount it anywhere with a dremel tool and some L brackets haha...But I didn't want to cut up my dash and couldn't really figure out how it would fit in the ashtray (which I don't use) like some people claim to do...But really the only time I come in contact with the controller is when I slide forward and it touches my knee...Other than that I have not had any problems in my daily driving with it attached, and with it off I don't have any contact whatsoever and getting in I have no problems either...And I'm 5-10 200 lbs...

I put mine in about the same location as Outbacker. It's out of my way but within arms reach when I need it. The nice thing about the Tekonsha Prodigy and the P3 is they're gray and black, and it matches the ebony interior very nicely.

I put mine in the same spot as yours TxQuarterHorse using one of the existing hex screws that holds on the lower dash. Even with my floor mounted 4X4 Shifter there hasnt been any problems. Gotta love the Prodigy; set it and forget it.

My prodigy velcros to the right of the dash above the accelarator. When not in use it just unplugs, slips into the cloth bag that came with it, and rides around in the glove box.

When I sit in the truck there is not much room between my shin and the dash so I think I am going to velcro it and unplug it for daily driving

      You're better read than that Atlas. 😏   British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke formulated three adages that are known as Clarke's three laws, of which the third law – that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" – is the best known and most widely cited.   Stribeck and the pivotable Hersey Number isn't voodoo nor snake oil. That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling.

      You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
