Squeling Brakes Fixed

Recommended Posts

Had the most annoying brakes when braking since purchasing. Brought the truck in 6 months ago and all the dealership would do is rotate rotors and spray some stop squeel. But brought the truck to the dealership this week and there was a bulletin out for the squeeling brakes. So GM replaced the front brake pads (driver/Passenger) free of charge. No more brake squeels. YET

Good to know. My truck has 10k on it and it squeals like a stuck pig. Would you happen to know the TSB #?

Sry it took me so long.

the bulletin number the dealership provided was 00-05-22-002k

However, this morning driving my truck and after warming up the brakes are starting to squeel again. :driving:

I think Ive a bend/defect in the rotor. If I just press slightly on the brakes the brake pads make contact to the rotor at 1 point in the revolution an thats when it starts to squeel. ITMAFS

Try this. When you have you pads off, there are two tabs, beend them down so it's nearly imposible to fit them back on, reinstall and good luck.

That sucks...I was happy to see this thread, mine has squealed off and on since the first couple of weeks. Very unusual, I've always been pretty happy with GM brakes. (Well besides the look of the drums, but we won't go there.)

Well the service tech said the bulletin was new and stated they have been replacing lots of pads. Shes had no complaints from customers saying the brakes are squeeling. Until me of course.

I've noticed mine in the past week to start squealing when I come to a stop. Not sure if it is an anomaly or related to this. I'm hoping it just goes away since it only does it periodically (first start driving).

Edit: My truck is at about 3500 miles.

So far my fronts are fine, but my rear brakes squealed like a stuck pig starting at about 1,500 miles. I finally pulled the drums and sanded the drums real good and chamfered the pads better and so far they are quiet.

Well mine satrted about the same time 1500 miles. Now I have 20k and its bad. Im ducking my head when I come to a stop.LOL

Should I try your method on the front disc brake?

I would if I were you. I've always found that no matter how much goo you put on there or chamfer the pads GM brakes squeal, unless you get the tabs bent and tight enough. Good luck what do you have to lose?

Any pictures of these tabs would help please before i go pulling my wheels off.

Thanks

The rotors were warped since the day I brought it home with 6 miles on the clock. Since the rotors weren't bad (only noticeable when braking from high speeds), I didn't get around to taking it to the dealer until around 9,000 miles. The dealer resurfaced the rotors so they are no longer warped but are now glazed over and the pads are squeaking on occasion. I have about 10,600 miles on her now. I'm going to take it back to the dealer in the next few weeks to see about new pads and rotors but I'm not expecting that to happen. If they don't get it taken care of, I'm going to put on aftermarket rotors and pads. The quality of the OEM rotors isn't good on the 900's based on my experience of the two 900's that I've had.

Cheap Chinese-made crap! :driving:

Mine are holding up OK for now (22K miles), but I don't expect that to last long. I too will upgrade to some quality rotors/pads when these crap out.

Here are some pictures off the internet. Use a hammer to tap the tabs so that they fight tight. You may have to test fit it several times until you figure it out, once you have them tight use the anti squeal. Since they already probably used plenty of it you sill probably have to scrape it off, but you should be able to pick some up from any parts store.
