4 Wheel Drive Not Working

Recommended Posts

How do you know they aren't spinning? Could be any number of things on a 2000. I have the same year and have a faulty 4x4 dash switch. This is very common, but if yours says it's in 4Hi on the dash yet still won't work it could be mechanical. Maybe in the transfer case?

Well i had my head out the window looking at the tires and the driver side didnt move, and i had people telling that the passenger side either. This has been a problem on and off for about 2 months now. The 4 wheel drive works when it wants to. i am wondering if it might be the front axle shift motor?

Basically, is the front drive shaft also spinning?

if the propeller shaft is spinning, you have a diff problem

so would the front axle shift motor cause that if it's not engageing?

I wouldn't necessarily trust my friends to figure out whether my 4wd was working or not. With an open diff, the driver side could have been spinning when someone looked at the passenger side, and the passenger side could have been spinning when you looked at the driver side.

Try engaging 4wd on dry pavement and turning. If you have any binding, stop, and take it out of 4wd. Your 4wd works. If it doesn't bind, something's broken.

I have done that and it seem to be lockin thats why it has me puzzled. it almost seems like when it is engaged that there isnt enough torque being sent to the front. with haveing the friends looking at the passenger side, i was looking out the driver side at the same time.
