H.i.d. Relay Questions

I have already pulled both of my drl fuses due to the claim that drl runs at a lower voltage which could harm the ballasts. I have done some research on relays and from my understanding the relay powers the ballast directly from the battery. Would this cancel out the lower voltage problem and let me keep my drl fuses in or not?

DRL do run at lower voltages. I would pull the fuses.

The relay harness keeps you from frying your stock wiring harness from the start up of the ballests due to the excesive amp/heat withdrawl and it keeps from having one light brighter than the other or flickering or one light powering up

Has anyone used a relay to power their HID lights? Found several wiring kits like this:

Pretty simple, straight forward. Curious if the "DRL voltage" will be enough to cause the relay to switch properly. I would consider purchasing this type of wiring harness over pulling fuses, as I like having DRL.

 

yeah I used a relay on my HIDs but mine is the GMT800, not the GMT900. I think even with the relay that may cause a problem but it is hard to say...

I guess it really depends on the relay. If it only takes 8V to create a closed circuit and the DRL voltage is 10, then it might be possible. I don't know much about relays and tolerances. Do they "flicker" if held at the trigger voltage... or once triggered they have to go below a certain threshold to create an open circuit... not sure. If it wasn't raining today I would get a DRL voltage reading. Anyone know this information by chance? I would think a common automotive relay would trigger around 8-10V. I also don't want to burn up a relay because of holding it at an improper voltage.

My kit came with a relay/harness and I can run with the DRL's on.

 

Thats what i was thinking. I have been doing a boatload of research and drls run at a lower voltage but the relay gives you power directly from the battery so in theory that low voltage problem wouldnt be an issue. i kinda like my drl's but i can live without them at the same time. just turn my lights on manuelly
