Pre-race activities

Once again the pre-race activities for The Winston were great.

Before the race they had the Banditos and legends races again, plus a new series to NASCAR they said, the Thunder Roadsters.  Then the ARCA race.  They also had the competition for the drivers of the haulers, that was awesome.  The ARCA race is supposed to be on SPEED channel this week.

They also had the No Bull 5 drivers for next week do their little thing to match them up with thier fans.  Tony Stewart, Ryan Newman, Jeremy Mayfield, Mark Martin, and Sterling Marlin each had to take turns, getting in a Tractor-Trailer at the start/finish line.  They had to drive it around the little oval track on the front stretch.  There were cones in the turns on each end, and four slolomn like "gates" on the back stratch.  Once they made it back to the start/finish line, they had to drive the entire truck and trailer past the line, then stop and back the entire thing back across the line.  Whoever did it the quickest got matched with the first fans, and down the line.  Knocking over any cone at each obstacle was a 5 second penalty.  It was pretty cool, a few of them couldn't shift in those things very well.  Sterling won and Tony Stewart go tsecond, they were the only two with no penalties.

The hauler competition was awesome too.  The started on the pit road.  They had to drive down and pass a simulated loading dock and pull into a very narrow "stall" gettting as close as they could to the front of it without touching.  Then back back up to the dock getting as close as possible without touching it.  There were lines every little bit out from it, and crossing each line gave them more points.  Then they had to take off and make a U-turn at the end of pit road, coming backwards down the front stretch go through 3 or 4 slolomns on the front strech on their way back to the S/F line. they were flying in those tings.  One guy got a percect score of 200.  He was in the Winston Open too, but wrecked early.

Had a great time.  Anybody that can go and get there early enough for all this stuff should go.  I think I liked the pre-race stuff better this time than last time.

A buddy of mine and I have a Legends car that we race (he drives, I'm THE Pit Crew). We were invited to race yesterday at Lowe's Motor Speedway and had a blast! Pretty cool to race in front of a large crowd!!

We finished 6th out of a field of 24!!

That's cool!!    Which car was yours?

We all kept laughing at the guy who kept spinning himself out every other lap of the legends race in the green and white car.

Our car is a very light grey w/ red front fenders with a red wedge on the lower part of the door. Our car is #5. Major sponsor is Diamond Racing Products.

If you remember right towards the end of the race in turn 4 two cars spun out (one was the #78 car) right in front of us. We missed getting tangled up, but three cars got past on the inside. Put us in 6th, where we stayed to the finish.

It was a good practice for us. The car was totally rebuilt after a real bad wreck at the Hickory (NC) track about 1 1/2 months ago. This was our first track time on this brand new set-up. We were happy w/ the results. We start racing full-time at Lowe's in early June (The Summer Shootout).

I remeber seeing your car.  Looked like it ran pretty dang good to me.  Good luck with the full-time racing in June.

Thanks!! I appreciate that!!!

Be sure to get some pics to post for us.

I'll do that! Thanks!!

Are they still doing the NASCAR "Celebrity" races in the convertible Nascar Cars?

They did the celebrity races last year, but I haven't heard about it for this season. Those can get pretty crazy on that short track! They also carry one of the fans as a passenger. I'm sure that is a lawsuit waiting to happen!!!

Hey Mark,

What are the chances of getting one or two of our GMTC stickers on your car?

Drop me, Frank, or Mervs a pm if it's a possibility.
