Adding A Bug Sheild/deflector

Been considering adding a shield just not sure who manufactures the best type. Some say they attach with just 3M Foam type, while others use screws with the existing holes on the hood. Is the factory OEM shield as good or better than the aftermarket brands?

I dont know about the factory ones, but I've had Stampede bug shields on all my trucks and have never had a complaint. They look good, have never broken and install easily. I've got the vigilante series on my Tahoe now. Basically these just use holes that are in your hood already.

If you look around you can find em real cheap. Mine only cost $40.

That brand looks good. Kinda like the low profile look they have. Do these ever make contact with the hood? I noticed the AVS brand ships with adhesive rudder pads that you attach to the hood. That makes me wonder if it actually gives that much at faster speeds ...

I have a Gm one that I bought at the dealer. It's good my trucks almost 3 years old and it sits out side all day long and we have 100 degree days for about 1 month and it has not faded. It's held in by 5 screws.

What has me wondering is how the GM OEM attaches to the hood on the NBS. Most of the aftermarket ones go straight across, covering up the top of the chrome grill piece on the hood. While the GM is offset around the chrome from what I've seen.

Can anyone verify this?

yep, he GM one follows the contour of the chrome on the hood.. 3M tape .. with Z-Clips on each end of the deflector using a vinyl wrap on the hood ( 1/2 x 1) .. so far so good ..:-)

the 3M tape follows the contour around the chrome and a small section of the flat (above LH/RH Headlight)

I have had issues with some of the OEM bug shields cracking or chipping in the past. The material that lund makes the shields out of makes a huge difference.

Just one angle that I was given. When I was taking delivery of my truck, I asked about the OEM GM deflector. I liked it because it went up and over the chrome hood piece as you have described. The salesman I dealt with asked the service manager about those deflectors and he actually recommended against it. This was because it is held on by just the double sided tape IIRC and after a few years, they can start to let go.

I ended up going with the 3M clear shield:

I don't know, I guess I could have very easily repaired the OEM shield after a few years IF the tape let go. Just woulda bought some double sided tape at the hardware store.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I went to my GMC dealer this morning to look at the OEM Shield and the parts guy let me have it for $63 + tax. So saved on the shipping charges. I liked the look on the factory shield since it contours to the grille trim so opted for it. Time will tell the tell though on longevity though. Wasn't real keen on the foam tape application but if it fails I have access to some industrial strength 3M double sided tape that will hold. The two end brackets seem to hold it in place more so than the tape. Altogether it went on fairly easy in about 25 minutes and seems very durable.

damn that shield looks good....but does anyone have a pic of a gm chrome or stainless one on a GMC?? Dukers you said everyone likes chrome do you have any pics?? Just don't know if it's to much chrome up front, I don't want the kenworth look!
