Interior Conversion W/t To Lt ?

I picked up a 2006 2500hd 4WD Crew cab work truck. I would like to uprgade the interior from manual and vynal to power and leather, but I can't seem to find an answer to what are the compatable years, to swap door panels, seats, and carpet and possibly even the dash. I was looking for the compatable years and if the 1500 model crew cabs are also compatable?

I would like to swap steering contols, power window and locks, and the remote secutity system. I know these are all contolled by modules. If I had the parts would all the connections in my harness be there?

Thanks

Steve

Congrats on the new truck. Your best bet is to find a suitable donor truck from a salvage yard. I'd say almost everything from 99-07 classic will fit, it's just a matter of finding the one you like the best, otherwise you'll have a small fortune in all the upgrades.

Most of it will be bolt on, and plug in but the BCM will need programmed.

If your upgrading the interior I wouldn't put GM's crap leather in unless you had too. I'd look at some aftermarket power seats, the leather will be much better.

Anything from 03-07 classic silverado and sierra, they have the same plug wire's and plug in's. 99-02 are different. The whole dash is the same but you can change the gauges, radio. Do you have mannual windows, and looks? If so your going to have to change the door panel. There's going to be a lot of wiring. As for the seats you can just recover those ones with leather. I'll see if I can get some part numbers for you.

Thanks,

Yes I have manual door and windows which I would like to change. I have been told that the swap would be real difficult to do, possibly prohibitive. Due to the electronics.

If actually possible, I would like to switch for sure, the power windows and locks. I would like the keyless entry, but add an aftermarket alarm

Also if possible cruise, steering wheel contols, and stereo (bose if not too complicated).

I assume I need dash harness, door panels with switches, door window motors and lock actuators. Not sure what other computers or harness I would need.

ALSO, I just found an 06 1500 crew cab with front end damage, I can pick up the whole truck, it has one damage door panel and dash, but I would be able to use the door panels, seats, and electonics from the other 3 plus any harness or modules. Then I have just one door to source. Problem is it has been exposed to rain with the door missing for a year, thsy are supposed to email me some inside photos.

Sounds like a good truck to get your parts From. For the speakers Go aftermarket Better sounding. Also After market For the alarm.

I sent you a pm For the part Numbers.

I take it w/ a donor 2006 1500 crew cab, I would be able to swap most parts, and if there were vin specific components they can be flashed. I also need a new bed as mine has dents in it, the bed is cut out where the ball was ,and it does not latch properly, so I would just need to paint it to match.

I should get more photos later, I would just need to source a door panel for drivers door and a matching fron dash, as mine is grey and the seats are tan leather.

Steve

Also, I know I should have bought one with the options, but I am still into it at 7k-truck 2k-3yr/36 warr and 1k on truck parts from dealer in TX. So 11k plus my time and having bed and few other spots painted.

I'm sorry to say that your venture isn't worth it. I've known people who have done this type of thing and it always comes out poorly, not to mention that it a complete waste of money. You will never see any of this money back again when you go to sell the truck and you will run into loads of issues doing all this work. You would be much better off just selling the truck as-is right now and go find what you want already factory complete. What ever money you think you are saving by not trading the entire truck for another one is easily wasted in the upgrade process. We aren't talking about a few things here, rather 80% of the interior.

Well, hopeing your not right  , from what I have heard, the seats should not be a problem. I may just wire up the window motor and locks the directly, without going through a computer and using some older switches, as suggested by another on the forum.

I really dont expect to have return on my investment, nor do really plan to sell. I will use the truck mostly to pull my track car. I also like to try projects like this, and will probably get in over my head. I have the help of a mechanic friend of mine that runs the shop at the community collage and also there seems to be alot of help from this forum, which is the best I have found.

Thanks

While mini1 raises a good point, if this is something you really want to try for interest sake or fun, go for it. There are some pretty knowledgeable folks here on the forum like you mentioned and I'm sure they'll try to help you out.

Are many parts useable from that donor truck? Looks pretty banged up.

These are the parts I need.

Good bed-- mine has two huge dents and the latch mechanism is all bent up.

Power window motor and lock actuators from 3 doors-- most slavage yards dont want to part with these.

Leather front and rear seats-- m vynal are in bad shape.

Carpet- maybe if it can be saved, it has seen alot of water and sun. Eady to source

Dooor panels-- 3 I will probably leave drivers last.

Any wiring haness or computer I may need. should be usable.

Exaust sytem--if compatable as mine has some damage.

So I will need to source probably one door set up, carpet and headliner. Since this is a 1500 I doubt the trans is the same. But I could easily sell the 5.3 engine, trans , rear end, and probably make money. Then take to a salvage yard for some beer money.

Do it up man! It looks like a hefty project but is prob doable if you have the time and all the parts you need from the donor. Keep us posted on your project, and make sure to take plenty of pictures...

Good Luck! :smoker:

Hey Steve,

I like to do these same kind of projects that you are mentioning but there is just going to be too many differences between the 1500 and 2500 to make this work.

The best thing I can suggest is that you find the same model year truck, with same power train etc...and just swap everything over....from dash wiring on back...

The 1500 bed will not fit as it is 5'8" as where your 2500 has a 6.5" Bed....

The 1500 also has completely different wiring for Seats and Airbags....1/2 Ton's are Dual Stage....3/4 Ton's are Single Stage....the Seats contain alot of the electronics for this along with the dash wiring....

Also the Cab looks pretty damaged right in the area where most of the main wiring is that you are going to need for the swap....I'd say this truck isn't going to do you a whole lot of good....

Man, the bed was the gravy.

Would the seats be able to wire up w/ direct power?? He wanted $200 for front and rear.

As for the door lock acutators and power window motors, would they be compatible or differnt as well? I could probably grab the wiring, and source the computers if damaged. It is a ways to go just to look, and I would think I could easly get back my $900 with what I take off the inside.

I could probably swap the bed for one like mine at a salvage yard.

The truck was supposed to have ran prior to setting up a year, not sure what a good 5.3 and trans would go for??

Thanks

Steve
