What is involved in swapping rear end gears? Can this be done in the driveway by weekend warrior?

I have a gmt900 4.8 crew with 3:23 and want 3:73 or 4:10

It takes someone with a very good amount of mechanical ability and some special tools. They're not incredibly difficult, but the advise i usually give is, if you have to ask how its done you're probably not capable of doing it.... i'd recommend getting it done professionally. (unless you have a friend that knows how to do it and can help you step by step)

^^^^^^ What he said.

Rear gear changes, are not for someone to tackle the first time, without having someone who REALLY KNOWS what he is doing, looking over your shoulder.

You need a dial indicator and shims and of course the proper SPECS to set the backlash of the ring gear and pinion. The DEPTH of the teeth mesh have to also be set.

Pay someone that knows what he is doing, set it up. You will be ahead in the long run.
