I have an 05 2500hd,with the factory am/fm/cd stereo in it.Here's the weird part.In the am going to work I only have rear speakers working. When I leave work in afternoon when truck has been sitting all day front and rear speakers work, also the chimes also work then too.I've thought about changing stereo but the module for chimes cost @ $200.Any idea what could be causing this weird problem?

The chimes play thru "ONLY" the front speakers...as you know.

My first guess is that there is a loose wire/loose connection somewhere.

Things contract when cold and expand when hot.

It does not work in the morning when everything is cool...it does work in the afternoon when everything is hot.

It could also be a module that is going out...but I doubt it.

They typically malfunction when it gets hot...not cool.

I am glad you started this thread. My truck started having this issue this winter. I have the AM/FM (no cassette/CD) in my '06 1500 WT. I have the EXACT same symptoms. I figured it was probably a capacitor or other electronic component in the radio somewhere. If it were loose wires, I would expect only one front speaker to go out and not both at the exact same time. It seems like when the truck warms up, even while driving, the fronts will come on.

Pretty annoying because I have to crank the radio the hear it especially with the windows down.

Hopefully someone may have resolved this. I'd love to get it fixed. When I get time I wanted to go through the threads to find instructions on how to remove the stereo without hosing up the dash. I figured if I could get it out and play with it on the bench I could figure out what was going on, at least to the point of knowing I need a new stereo. I just hate to buy a new one because they are expensive and I don't like the idea of an aftermarket stereo.

If it's like my system there is an auto volume control feature on the volume knob. If you move that adjuster it will turn up the volume as noise increases in the cab. I'd check your manual and make sure it's set correctly. It does also sound as if you guys have a possible cold solder joint problem in the stereo unit itself.
