I just went out to my freshly washed truck and I noticed that the bedliner was splattered with a lavendar colored splatter. Of course it was bird poop. I didn't care since it was just the bedliner, but then I noticed it on the front rail and a little splatter above one tail light. I used a tissue and wiped off the not yet hardened poop above the tail light, and then was horrified to see the clear coat etched a little bit. It looked like the poop was a bit acidic and had begun to eat into the clear coat. I ran inside for a wet rag (and on the way into the house I noticed that he cluster bombed all over my white fence) and scrubbed off all the poop on the paint. Then I dried the area and it looks like that etching is no longer there. I guess it had not really done any damage after all, but it sure had me upset for a minute! The moral of the story is: Park the truck in the garage instead of the driveway.

I believe in hot weather that the bird crap can etch the paint in 45 minutes or something, acording to some things I've read on Meguiar's forum.

A year ago I parked my Silverado under some trees and during lunch I walked out to discover bird poop all over it. It literally was covered with bird shit :troll: and I washed it the day before. I quickly ran the truck through a touchless wash. Moral of the story: Don't park your vehicle under trees.
