2008 Silverado Tires + Wheels Question

Okay,

So let me set the scene. I have a 2008 Black 1500 Silverado currently with 285/70/R17 BFG KM2 MT on OEM Aluminum stockers (the 17'' x 7.5'' ones). I have a 2'' ProComp leveling kit.

I want to get some black ATX Vice wheels pending they fit with my current tires. The wheels are 17''x 8'' with a 25mm offset.

The way I figure it, 7.5/2 + 31mm/25.4mm = 4.97'' backspace.

The ATX's are 8.0/2 + 25mm/25.4mm = 4.98'' backspace.

With my tire + wheel combination rub given that I go up in wheel width 0.5'' pushing my tires further inside (and out slightly)?

Hi,

I just put the same tires on Procomp 6001 wheels and had the Readylift 2.25" leveling kit installed. I moved away from the 20-inch oems. The 285's required some trimming of the rear fender well. It's no big deal. The local shop did it with a cutoff wheel so you would not be able to tell from outside (unless you got real close). The truck honestly rides better, steers better, looks better. The Terragrapplers definitely make more noise on the FWY than the previous LS/2 street tires, but I expected that with an aggressive tread. Speedo changed only a few miles / hour (dead on now) and I did not notice any reduction in power.

One thing to note: on my truck ANY weight in the bed took it from level to squatting (Cali Lean) a little, a boat made it look pretty bad. They talked me into airbags rather than leveling blocks. I LOVE THE AIRBAGS. There are a ton of posts on here about why they are great for towing. Anyone who puts tongue weight on a pickup should have these things. It TOTALLY improves the towing ride quality and I can set my rear ride height wherever I want.

What brand air bag kit do you have, and do you have an on board compressor, also if you don't mind me askin, were did you get them, and about how much did they run ya

I went with the Firestone Ride-Rite 2430 Kit the shop recommended, did not choose the compressor (too $), I had bought and installed them through a local off-road company (Outlaw Offroad in So.Cal.), and paid ~$400 installed (I was leaving on a trip the next day). I don't adjust them very often so the compressor is not a big deal. I always carry a portable one anyway.

Just a note - when I'm not towing I leave around 8 pounds in them and I really don't think it changes the stock ride quality. I was concerned the bags would make the unloaded ride more stiff but really don't think it does.

Another note - The airbags totally eliminated the side-side roll when crossing over speedbumps and culverts diagonally...that used to drive me nuts!
