I see no replies since you posted,so I'll add my .02.I know Suburban tanks are 42gl.(I have 2) but they mount at the rear of the frame.Might be some work to extend the hoses, wires etc. but that is an option. No room for the spare too :D

Aerotanks of Corona, CA used to make a 40gal tank for the GMT800 shortbed (99-06). I don't know if they ever made one for your model. Might be worth checking into. Regardless, there is room up in there to fit more fuel in the orig location if careful work is done. Also, consider an auxilliary tank in addition to the stock tank. That would require a transfer system to fill the factory tank with fuel from the aux tank once the stock tank has been burned down some. This is how nearly every large commercial airplane deals with fuel from multiple tanks, with transfer of fuel to main tanks so it can be burned. But these kinds of systems are not fool proof. You will be the fuel manager and you can forget and transfer fuel too early, overfilling the stock tank, or wait too late and run the main tank dry.

Anyway, just offering up some options.

Or you could just add another fuel tank...

I think that's what Chuck said....

I would agree to add a tank also. The 24 gallon on the shortbeds is a joke. My 81 only has a 20 gallon. And that thing can burn 4-5 gallons an hour plowing. Good thing we have 24 hour gas. I am going to add an auxiliary tank. The valve, pump, sending unit, etc is not cheap for the TBI, so I might just do a frame mounted cheapie electric to pump from the aux tank to the main tank.

Probably a Suburban/Tahoe tank would be the easiest to install and make work.
