hey guys my 04 sierra, i ocassionally off road my truck, but when im in 4wd it seems my p/f wheel and driver rear tire will stay put while the other 2 work, is there like a limited slip differential that would be recommended? or is it just a waste of time

All these trucks come with limited slip differential. Yours may be shot. Limited slip will only engage at lower speeds, and disengage at higher speeds. I believe it's disengaged above 40mph. Peeling around corners. and smoking the tires on solid turf like pavement will tear up these slip diff units btw. If you have drained the fluid and refilled with a standard gear oil, not synthetic, it'll not work unless you put in the slip differential additive. If you use a synthetic gear oil, it'll have the slip differential additive already. Hope this info helps!

WRONG!

The G80 is not an LSD. It is a mechanically actuated rear locker. There is a BIG difference.

The front diffs are open.

Not all trucks come with a G80. It is an option.

Do I need to send you some lutefisk to chew on?

Really, but he didn't say it was a G80, so you're wrong to speculate he has a G80. :(

Wow, I think I will have to just leave this one alone. It's just too easy. :):)

I'm pretty sure 4wds only have the option of G80 or open diff.

I pray to God I'm right.

Also, the G80 operates as an LSD, not a mechanical locker, although it is a mechanical device. :(

Yes, it is easy. The G81 is an electronically actuated user selective posi trac diff. :D

The use of any additive in locking rear axles (G80) is not recommended. Rear axle additives are designed for use in limited slip differentials which are normally installed in cars. All light duty trucks equipped with RPO G80 make use of a locking differential and the use of additives will delay the engagement of the locking mechanism and may decrease axle life.

Better contact GM, Chilton's and Haynes and tell them their instruction books are wrong.

Never heard of such a thing...decrease axle life? Do you mean bearings or gears? :(
