Upgrades Or Maintence Reccomended W/ Trans Replacement

I have an 06 2500hd CC 4wd. I bought it used, with a ext warrenty. It has about 70k miles, but was used hard. The trans heated up, unloaded, on my way home from dealer. Had to let is sit 3wks to make sure paperwork was in before making the claim. Spoke w/ dealer today and they are putting in a reman trans coming from the In company. Orris or Old Republic.

I thought about going with a larger trans cooler, as I plan to use the truck to haul a track car and car trailer. Any other items to upgrade, replace, service, grease, ect.. while the trans is out??

Thanks

Steve

If it was me.... I'd consider a larger tranny pan, along with an extra cooler and full synthetic ATF. I used Royal Purple max ATF with good results.

I'd give it all the help it needs from the sound of it. Congrats on the truck.

Steve,

I just priced a trans from a rebuilder and asked him if there is anything I need to do when installing to ensure I don't violate the warrenty. He said he requires a new radiator to be installed in the vehicle at the same time. He said that the oil to water ATF cooler in the radiator will redeposit the old shavings/clutch material/muck from the old trans fluid into the new trans and cause it to have problems.

I'm not sure if it really matters or not, but it kinda makes sense to me.

Good luck.

You could reverse flush the line in the rad.

If you have an external trans cooler, replace it.

Unless you want to install an external trans fluid filter setup.
