Such A Thing As A Warped Intake?

I am rebuilding my 98 5.7 and wanted to get my intake hot tanked. When I called about the cost the shop told me that they also checked to make sure it was not warped. I have never heard of an intake warping so I think maybe they are just trying to bump the price and say they need to machine it. Do these things actually warp?

I've heard about the plastic ones having problems. But, I haven't personally encountered a cast iron or aluminum one with a warping problem. But, I suppose it's possible.

My 96 tahoe 5.7 had its intake warp and its alluminum. It is a real deal. It will leak antifreeze from the back corner if it is warped. It was planed down once before so long story short, they did you a real service.

I had no leaks and great vacume.

I cleaned off the surfaces, laid a level across it and got out a flashlight. I could see light the entire length. I think I'll have it checked.
