Dynomax is offering a $75 rebate on their exhaust kits. They just came out with a new full stainless cat-back kit for 2009-2010 Silverados.

I was planning on a JBA cat-back kit like I had on the last truck, but the Dynomax is about $60 less at Summit Racing, not including the rebate.

Has anyone installed one of these yet? I am seriously considering it, but I wonder about the sound and if there are any drone issues. I had Dynomax mufflers on my Chevelle and loved them, but they were loud....not something I would want to hear every day in my rig.

So should I spring for the Dynomax or just go with the JBA? I have not seen any sound clips of this kit posted yet.

I have the dyno max on my 09 4.8. I had to cut the flange off the exhaust because the exhaust i got was for a 2008. The only diff is where it connects right behind the Y-pipe. I have had it for almost a year now. I love it! It sounds similar to the magnaflow. It has a little drone in the city when accelerating. Cruse at 95 kph you can just hear a faint rumble. I payed $340 for mine Canadian. But it helps if you are a dynomax dealer lol. It retailed for around $900

Thanks for the input. I was leaning toward the JBA, but I really can't go wrong for the price, plus the rebate. I will probably order it soon. I just wanted to make sure it didn't have the annoying drone at cruising speeds like the Flowmaster kit I first had on the last truck!

Bump:

I have had the Dynomax kit on my truck for two weeks now and I love it! It sounds great, not too loud, and the only "drone" I hear is during low speed (like 30MPH) steady driving right when the AFM kicks into V4 mode, but it really is not that bad if you have the radio on. I will try to figure out how to post a sound clip. This actually sounds more mellow than the JBA exhaust on my Yukon that had the 4.8.

The kit was very easy to install. Once I removed the factory exhaust, it took about 25 minutes to install in my driveway. This is part number 39495 for the 09-10 Silverado. It has the correct ball fitting that you can see right before the flexible coupling on the stock exhaust.

I really did not feel any difference in performance, but I do like the sound. I did however, gain about 1.5 MPG. Each month I make a two hour drive (90% highway) to visit the folks up in the mountains. I drive steady between 70-80MPH and always got about 17MPG on the DIC until I made it to the steep hills. By the time I would arrive, the DIC would show about 15.5 MPG average.

This past weekend I was shocked to see the DIC reading 17.5-17.8 average (before getting to the hills), and when I got to my parents' door, it was at 16.9! It must be making more power since I noticed that I was not leaning on the gas as much while going up the hills.

All in all I am extremely pleased with the quality and performance of the DynoMax kit. It was under $400 shipped, all stainless, and I just sent in the $75 rebate form.

I know everyone has their own opinions about what exhaust is best, but I'm recommending DynoMax if you're in the market for an exhaust kit.

Thats a pretty good gain im sure in both sound and mpg's. Im sure the gradual increase has something to do with computer taking time to relearn.

I would be ordering that kit right now if only they offered it with dual exits, just a preference of mine. You cant beat their prices

Does your system have that new VT muffler ( with the valve )?

That looks pretty cool.

No, it has the stainless steel welded Ultra-Flo. The VT does look cool though, but with the system I have there really is no reason for it since there is no bad drone.

Yeah, I would have liked the dual exits too, but I could not go wrong for the price.

I think Tenneco/Walker, the makers of Dynomax, are in the process of expanding their line. My Dad called because he wanted a kit for his 07 NBS 2500. The only one they make has a stainless muffler, but the pipes are aluminized. The tech told him they are in the process of making full stainless kits for many more applications, with different exit location options. Though there was no timeframe given.

I was ready to jump on it til I saw it was NOT dual exhaust....sort of like going hunting with no ammo..as far as I'm concerned. Good luck with it though.

It won't ship until Sept 9, so I'm in that "wait" mode, I guess.

Thanks to Harvey for the heads-up!

By the way, the August 2010 issue of "Truckin'" magazine reports, on page #34, a 23+ horsepower and 30 lb-ft torque increase with this system. Not bad, but we'll see. It's all related to the right foot on the gas.

Got the confirmation number, and will be calling DynoMax later today to find out for sure.

Thanks, again.

I'm looking at the links you have and they dont specify our trucks but as long as I get part # 39495 I'm good right? And do you still get a rebate from autopartsdealer, it's like $100 cheaper than summit and the dynomax flyer says no other promotions can go with it but didnt know if it was just cheaper. Harvey where did you end up buying yours from?

    • Fred was in the fertilized egg business. He had several hundred young pullets, and ten roosters to fertilize the eggs He kept records, and any rooster not performing went into the soup pot and was replaced. This took a lot of time, so he bought some tiny bells and attached them to his roosters. Each bell had a different tone, so he could tell from a distance, which rooster was performing. Now, he could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report by just listening to the bells. Fred's favourite rooster, old Butch, was a very fine specimen, but this morning he noticed old Butch's bell hadn't rung at all! When he went to investigate, he saw the other roosters were busy chasing pullets, bells-a-ringing, but the pullets, hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover. To Fred's amazement, old Butch had his bell in his beak, so it couldn't ring. He'd sneak up on a pullet, do his job and walk on to the next one. Fred was so proud of old Butch, he entered him in the City Show and he became an overnight sensation among the judges. The result was the judges not only awarded old Butch the "No Bell Piece Prize," but they also awarded him the "Pulletsurprise" as well. Clearly old Butch was a politician in the making. Who else but a politician could figure out how to win two of the most coveted awards on our planet by being the best at sneaking up on the unsuspecting populace and screwing them when they weren't paying attention. Vote carefully in the next election, you can't always hear the bells.
    • Can someone confirm if the GM order workbench terminal is able to validate a custom build sequence:   1) Initialize the Allocation Base: Open a new vehicle build queue, select the 2026 Chevrolet Suburban 4WD, and pick the High Country (3LZ Preferred Equipment Group).   2) Select the Diesel Powertrain: Go directly to the engine configuration screen and choose RPO code LZ0 (3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel). Ensure it maps to the MHS 10-speed automatic transmission.   3) Deploy the Seating Swap: Navigate to the Interior Options screen and enter RPO code ATT to replace the standard captain's chairs with the power-release 60/40 bench seat. Because you are not trying to force a separate luxury or air-suspension bundle, the standard, premium D07 Fixed Floor Console remains active. The system will accept this change immediately without triggering a warning message.   3)Apply Heavy-Duty Hauling Capability: Input RPO code NHT (Max Trailering Package). The commercial terminal will automatically bundle the required trailering hardware and software modules to support the diesel engine's maximum towing capacity.   5) Layer the Premium Tech and Glass: Separately add code C3U (Panoramic Power Sunroof) and code UKL (Super Cruise) to the order screen.   6) Run the Final Validation: Click the "Validate Order" button at the bottom of the interface.
    • Spent the last hour or 2 googling and reading up on the spacer thing. I don't like the loss of thread contact on the slip on spacers, but it appears you can get "extended" lug nuts that reach into the hole of the wheel to get back the lost threads. Looks like the only true hubcentric slip on spacers are at least .375". I'd want as little as I could get away with and don't want to cause other clearance issues going any thicker. Bora seems to offer what appears to be a well made .375" spacer and extended lug nuts. I searched here and did find a couple threads recommending Bora. But not cheap. By the time I buy spacers and lugs, new TPMS sensors, then pay a tire shop to install the new sensors, I suspect I'm going to be in over $400. Thinking about running out and getting some washers to put behind the wheel to see if .375" is enough to clear calipers, turn lock to lock without rubbing, and to see if the wheels/tires look strange pushed out a little. This would just be to check fitment.
    • Roadmaster makes some quality parts; I have their sway bar. I considered the RAS, but I ended up bagging. I didn't know what kind of ride I'd get with RAS, and the bags have interior jounce bumpers, so I can run 0 pounds pressure. I figured I'd have the best of normal suspension ride with assist on-demand. But it seems you got pretty much the same in one item.
