Door Speaker Grille's

Greetings boys and girls! Hoping someone can give me a tip on this issue. I need to remove the door speaker grille's and generally, would think it to be fairly straight fwd with just applying a little pulling pressure but... hesitant as I don't want to bend them. Will they come right off with a tad bit of pull or, are these fastened from behind the door panel which requires door panel removal? Has Anyone taken their's off?

i would also like to know how to take off the grills and would like to know what size and what kind of aftermarket speakers will fit in factory door holes.

Well, First we need to know what year / model truck you have.

If you have a 99 like me, (I think it is the same up till 03), there are several screws on the door panel that need to be removed, along with the plastic door lock switch.

After you get ALL of the screws out, the entire door panel LIFTS UP.

You do NOT need a lot of force to do this, so if it feels hung up, you missed a screw or two..

DO NOT try to pry the metal grill off the door panel, you will damage the grill and the door.

Last time I checked a replacement door panel is a few hundred bucks? Dunno....

One last thing, if you purchased speakers from Crutchfield, then they will supply you with the walk through directions on door panel removal, etc....

If you are REALLY slick..and EVER purchased anything from Crutchfield for a previous vehicle, you can call them and say that you bought a new truck and are moving the contents to the new truck from the old car, and they will most likely send you (e mail) the directions on how to do it.... the only catch is you need to have purchased something from them

Steve... I think my 2002 Silverado Ext Cab door panels (at least the main doors)are probably the same as yours... Thanks for the insight before I damaged it all. Anyway... if you want to improve your stereo, you can make your stock set up rival many aftermarket setups with two procedures;

FIRST:

Leave your stock speakers in place, they actually reproduce great mid range and excellent highs... but put a Low Frequency capacitor in between the speaker leads and the speker lead connectors of each speaker to eliminate them from trying too hard to reproduce Bass that they just aren't capable of reproducing.

SECOND:

Install an "Infinity Bass Link" (Powered Sub woofer setup) and place it under your Ext Cab's seat. Fits great

This is all really very easy to do, I simply caught a promotion at “Good Guys” a year ago, that offered to put them in on my speakers for me for free if I bought the Basslink and had it installed. They thought my plan wouldn't work very well nor sound worth while either... that was until they heard it and they were amazed.

It will be more bass than you will need and you will then be able to say good bye to the terrible Stock Stereo Distortion and you still maintain a stock appearing stereo.
