I'm using Redline 5W-40 in my 02 Suburban with a 6.0, Redline D4-ATF in the Tranny and Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-90 in the Diffs with E-Lockers. In my car(02 Malibu) I am using Redline 5W-30 in the engine and Redline D4-ATF in the tranny. The Burban has an Amsoil EAo Oil Filter and the Malibu is using a Pure One. :D:lol:

I've used dino oil in everyone of my vehicles for the last 20 years and never had a problem. I recently changed to synthetic in my Z71......heard all kinds of good things about it.........but honestly I can't tell any difference. Truck runs and starts great regadless of weather or anything else. I may switch to a synthetic blend as synthetic is quite expensive.......

I sometimes run full synthetic, and sometimes I run just regular conventional, depends on how much I want to spend that day :(:seeya: The way I see it, there are many many vehicles out there that get well over 200,000 on conventional oil and run just fine.

Mobil1 5W30 in the truck,Pennzoil 10W30 "High-Mileage" Dino oil in the Corsica.

AC-Delco filters for both.

I have done both in the past. Many years ago, I always used a good dino oil in my trucks. I keep my trucks about 5-6 years, normally ~90-100K miles. After I learned about synthetics, I was a Mobil 1 man all the way. I used it in every vehicle my wife and I owned. But with the rising cost of oil and the idea that I only intend to keep my vehicles ~5 years, I am not sure if synthetics are the answer for me. In order for synthetics to pay off for me, I feel the need to go with extended drain intervals, about 7-10k miles. But at some point with extended drain intervals, I think fuel dilution would become a problem if nothing else. I just purchased a new truck with a 5.3L engine. This is what I did on my first oil change. I used 5 quarts of Mobil Clean 5,000 oil, which meets the GM 6094M, GF-4

specification, and 1 quart of Mobil 1 fully synthetic meeting the same specification.

I am going to try this idea, and i am going with 5,000 mile drain intervals. I used to use Mobil 1 filters, but I am going with AC Delco now. To this date I have had 5 trucks and my wife about 5 vehicles, and I have never had any engine problems with any of them. I think the key is use a good quality oil and filter, whether it be synthetic or dino, and stay on top of all your maintenace. MMM

I think what you have posted MMM is solid information. However, I'm wondering if there is a significant fuel mileage and performance improvement using synthetic to help justify the cost.

I honestly feel you can't go wrong with the AC/Delco filters, they are a good quality filter. As for the oil changes, When I used to run synthetic I would only go as far as 5000-6000 miles per oil change as well, I just do not feel comfortable with 10,000+ mile intervals, and never will, no matter who does the oil study. Right now I use regular Valvoline 10W30 or 5W30 oil, whichever I really feel like using, the engines can handle both just fine. I go 4000-5000 miles betwen changes, I usually get around 4500-5000 before the OLM kicks the light on.
