Play DVDs thru the Navigation Display

Recommended Posts

I can view DVDs through both the rear seat entertainment system and the front seat navigation display as long as the vehicle's gear shift is in the PARK position. As soon as I move the gear shift lever out of the PARK position the DVD picture disappears from the Navigation Screen, but continues to play through the rear seat lcd display. Presumably this is a safety feature, however it is inconvenient for the front seat passenger not to be able to view the DVD video. Does anyone know of a workaround or a way to disable the lockout feature on the front Navigation screen so that the video continues to be displayed while the vehicle's gear shift lever is in the DRIVE position. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

There is a way for the GMT 800 navigation, but I duno of one for the GMT 900 navigation. I don't really understand why you would want that option anyway. It's not legal (in most states) to drive down the road and watch a movie!!

Try disconnecting the speed sensor wire in the back of the NAV unit.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram?

Usually you have to mess with a couple wires. The speed and the signal from the brake.

I want to hack it too.

If it does it as soon as you take it out of park im sure its a canbus or GMLan command instead of a VSS

FWIW

Only the NAV radio on the 07 with RSE have this feature.

NAV radio only will not play a DVD in the DVD slot.

I do have the RSE. I don't think it would play in the park position if I didn't, do you?

It would not play in park if you did not have that feature. I am also very interested in figuring out how this is done.

so with my 2005 Tahoe with navigation is there a way to have DVDs play on the screen without adding another dvd drive?

I'm a little curious about this as well...I just didn't want to ask, because it's not like it's hard to grab a DVD and walk out to the truck and check.

wont work on the -900's.

No VSS wire going into the nav unit. It gets VSS data thru the low speed GMLAN bus.
