Differential Gear Change And Warranty

I'm thinking of having a gear swap done on my 2007 silverado classic. The truck has the 4.8 with the G80 and 3.23 gears. I am running 285/50/20s on some SS rims. The truck just doesn't have any pull or torque with the bigger wheels and tires until about 50mph. I would like to swap out the 3.23 gears for a set of 4.10s. My question, if I have this done at a dealership, would the work and gears still be covered under the factory warranty? Also, if I chose to have an independent shop perform the work, what parts will be voided under the factory warranty?

The dealership in my area is not the best to work with, so I'm leaning toward an independent shop installing the gears for me.

It would depend on the dealership I think, some will not do any mods to a vehicle other than what came factory on it. An independent shop will usually warrant the gears and any damage resulting from a defect directly related to them. I think you'd also need to get your PCM recalibrated for that kind of change. Normally I ain't really a "change your pcm tire and gear" crap but that's a pretty big jump to go from 3.23 to 4.10.

My advice would be to let the independent shop do it, it shouldn't really void anything in your differential(s) other than the gears themselves unless they completely grenade and take out your rear end.

If the dealer does the work with GM parts you will get a 1 year 12K warranty,If an Independent does the work the Differential factory warranty will be voided, you don't expect GM to warranty non GM parts and the workmanship of a non GM mechanic do you?

To go from 3:23 to 4:10's with GM gears you will need to replace the case/carrier,If using aftermarket parts they make 2 different ring and pinion gear kits so you don't need to change you case/carrier,you will need to reprogram the computer with an aftermarket programer to correct the speedometer or the ABS will set a code and shut down, the transmission will not shift correctly and the speedo will be way off.
