We are at 9200 feet in Colorado. We can have snow in June. Took the boat out for the first time this year on Monday, nice day. Lake is 8700 feet in elevation. Started snowing yesterday afternoon. Temp was 40 degrees so some snow melted. Woke up to 20 degrees, 3 inches and snowing. View from the lake with a small island included.1 point

So first off, Im not a mechanic. A lot of people assume this is just normal, you have chased it the logical route, as most of us have. This includes many mechanics, ask me how I know. If the pressure is holding (which sometimes it drops over time, so check that) then you are good on the fuel supply side. The other side of this is electrical, which you have also looked at the starter so that should be good. Check a couple things, just as with the fuel pressure you need to check the electrical pressure (I know it sounds stupid so we can just call it amps then) you need to check you batteries ability to cold crank. You need to check your battery connections to make sure they are not resisting during the very high but short momentary surge current that gets it going. You need to check the connections to the starter and the wires along all those paths. (you can use a voltmeter for all this as well as visual inspection) I have found that the wires going to the starter are undersized and can eek out more current to the starter with a thicker wire. The current needed to get that big ass engine moving is quite a lot. If any one of these things are iffy, you will end up with your situation. I was in your situation for years literally, lol. Not an issue anymore, as I have also replaced all those items you suggested but also have a more powerful (cold cranking amps) battery and bigger connections and wires and now its good. Just remember its about pressure to the system, any choke on that pressure will stall it. This means that as it sits, over time any of the components that can lose pressure will likely be your culprit. Check-valves, batteries, fuel lines, etc.1 point

PF63 confirmed, did first break-in oil change at 1,000 miles and the OEM filter had a sticker on it "Replace with PF63". Next oil change will be at 4,000 miles.1 point

if the exhaust is super hot on 87 it must be very late timing, might not be something I want to use for offroading in a Colorado then, curious what the ZR2 with have in it. might be better off with the big 6 i'm probably better off building a 4x4 trailblazer instead1 point

sounds to me GM has it fine tuned it to operate with in a tight performance window eceptionally well, i have no idea what a 3 valve electronic water pump/thermostatic system is, got any photos? i have my doubts about any aftermarket improvements or ability to tune it..1 point

Middle 30's last two nights. Frost warnings in effect. And my tomatoes were just getting in stride.1 point

besides intake, i would look for a cooler thermostat, it yields the most HP for the money and improves reliability and reduces oxidation of fragile plastics under the hood. premium fuel or e85 would also mix well i bet1 point

My 74 nova custom had 165 hp with a 4bbl and factory duals. My CRV is quicker. Of course I modified the hell out of it. Come to think of it my Avalanche is probably quicker than it was. The 4 in your truck would lay waste to that 74 nova.1 point

FWIW, had a left front axle seal go at 15k. No biggy; was under warranty but thought I'd share in case others had the same.1 point

The guys I know are east of you, Cleveland and Youngstown. But I did find this thread and a guy who might still be around in your town. The thread is old but worth a shot. https://www.ls1gto.com/threads/ohio-tuners.287951/1 point

Food for thought: iseecars.com says that only 0.3% of all vehicles sold in the USA go past 300K, 1.2% of all vehicles sold in the USA make it past 200K miles but 95-98% will pass 100K. So...you could also say; Once past 100K that 98%+ of the remaining vehicles FAIL.... Which begs some serious questions. When one says "This motor was designed to use a DEXOS 0W20!", (for example) Does that not say... "The design is to fail"?1 point

Had my appointment yesterday at local dealership. They ran a scan for codes, made sure eveyrthing was "learned" & up to date but found nothing. The boards have only acted up a couple of times in the past month, and have possibly fixed themselves???? They've been working great for quite some time anyhow.0 points
