  1. I noted on the news last night the death count is now 13 with 9 missing. Found a few?
  2. I do the same thing with Shell. Mobil, local, is always 50 cents a gallon higher than the most expensive Shell V Power.
  3. I feel for you. For about 5 or 6 years now I have bouts of about six consecutive weeks mid winter of lumbar 'guarding'. A musculature reaction to pinched nerves from thinning disc. Can't sit, can't stand and can't lie peacefully. Chiropractor has held it at surgeons length for this period but eventually..... Alternating a heating pad and ice packs does provide some limited relief. Hope this goes well for you.
  4. Atheist I assume. An Agnostic believes he exist but doesn't care about his creation? Am I close?
  5. At birth It's the start of the slide. The only thing that changes is the steepness of the slope. Enjoy them naps.
  6. We have stations in the area that work inverse to each other. One drops thirty cents the other increases a quarter. Same brand 25 miles apart service by the same carrier from the same tank farm. WIERSEMA TRUCKING
  7. Ah yes. I see what you mean now. My first love was horses but dad didn't care for them in the house and they take up allot of the bed so he brought home an abused mut we called Tippy when I was about four. Its been game on ever since. Poop is smaller too. Tell us about Star and the experience of her.
  8. Not exactly what I meant by reflection. I meant as they grow with us we develop a style communication with them that we both understand that is unique to that creature and us as a team. More like when I look at my younger brother I can see my dad in him in his manor of speech, his gestures and preferences. A mimic we recognize in each other. We come to anticipate each other; like the wife finishing your sentences. Example. Rex has been with us ten years come December. When night falls he has multiple ways of communicating the differences between, "Come sit with me on the couch and watch some TV", a soft whine, which is different to "It's bed time, lets go", a punch in the thigh. If I say okay he spins and heads to bed and I follow. If I say, not yet, he sulks and ambles off to bed taking my pillow. Which is different from "time to go potty", staring at you the head cocks and the ears fold back. I say "Potty"? The ears prick up stiff. If not he's just bored and lays down behind my chair. I'm certain you all had some type of shorthand.
  9. They become part of us until they reflect us. Truly sorry this is happening.
  10. I saw last night the death toll is now 12 with 16 missing. Crew was only 3. That was allot of fuel. Will be interesting what the authorities find out. Truly sad event.
  11. That is going to depend heavily on your oil maintenance and vehicle service type. Varnish is the issue. Only you know your exact particulars.
  12. LSPI protection is a requirement in obtaining the SP certification. Valvoline happens to have a lab other blenders use to certify their oils. One of few. Mobil also has their own. The SP certification has a limit on the amount of calcium that can be used, the chemical that has been given credit for causing LSPI. So a new blend that meets the limit and has 'read across' on base oils can get a certification without actual testing if all other requirements have been met. Full testing cost ignorant amounts of money that would strain or break the resources of smaller blenders to this 'read across' is used quite often. I have no direct knowledge which method was used for the product you are asking about. But it is Valvoline.... I do and your missive is Goldie Locks perfect in delivery. Chuck, do you have your manuals for the equipment in question. I know they are old but they should have some information on the requirements of the oil to use. What I'm saying is work backward from what data you can mine. https://www.speedwaymotors.com/the-toolbox/zinc-additive-for-oil-how-much-zddp-is-enough/32478 There is detail in this link that is useful.
  13. Brazed pork shoulder with ground clove, sweet onion and in apple cider. Even corporate raised Yorkshire Pork is amazing. Low and slow.
  14. Buffalo defeat was embarrassing.
  15. November 3rd is the latest I've ever mowed grass and my lawn looked the best it has looked in over twenty years. Grass loves cool wet weather and while our rain has been on the light side the low to high temperature swing has been in the sweet spot. it was so hot and dry this summer on whole the grass and everyone's tomatoes did poorly. Disconnected hoses and drained hydrants same day. We are projected to enter sub freezing in the next week or so. Still have blooms on the herb garden. Fall here has been stunning for a place with few natural maples. Full rainbow of leaf colors this year.
  16. Animosity is an interesting word, eh? The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, 5th Edition has some definitions of the word that provoke thought. Hatred is a strong word the dictionary uses to define animus. I can't speak to the motivations of other but I can to mine. Hate isn't on that list of things I feel toward those I've 'Ignored'. @txab got to wording right. Frustration. The very first post of this thread in the very first sentence is the mission statement. I am intrigued by truth and mystified by the efforts some take to bury it. My thoughts may be complex and even under a process convoluted but the goal is simple. Speak the truth with each other. (Zechariah 8:16,17) One of the most frustrating things about searching for it with others is this false idea anyone is perfect. Reasonable people are quick to acknowledge their errors in process and conclusion and grant others that grace. Unreasonable people will grant neither and they 'frustrate' or "block the path" of (etymology of frustrate) truths pursuit. I hate that practice and I ignore those that use it as a bludgeon with willfulness. But I would still pull them from a burning building or feed them if they lack means or help rebuild their house destroyed by catastrophe. The practice not the person. Sadly some can't make that distinction. It's break time. Later
  17. Nor can it be. Don't read post of the ignored as a routine. Yes, I catch a snippet now and again in a quoted response from a member that is not ignored or a line or two that is included in "Popular Forum Topics". Takes a few hours or a day to clear that register so I'm checking in less these days. Thinking more and responding less to thought provoking ideas from a wide array of inputs. Here, yes, TV yes, meditations on daily bible reading, yes, side conversations and public addresses. Even a neighbors comment over the fence or around the fire in the backyard that draws some. Lot's of things trigger my thoughts and often I write those down here in this thread. Sometimes to share, sometimes to organize those thoughts sometimes to clear the mental cache. I don't hold grudges but I do avoid stupidity and hateful behaviors as much as one can and still draw air.
  18. Chuck, people are not often swayed nor educated by data, facts, studies or how expertly those things are presented or how experienced the presenter makes his case. People believe what they NEED to believe in spite of all of it. People choose their oil and service that way. They base their choice of vehicle on connectivity, cup holders and does it have a lift gate, not the rational of it being a reasonable purchase or the data surrounding the platform. Sales guys can't even tell you anymore the particulars of the engine. People choose there leaders by NEED for some personal relief not some greater good, and their religion the same way. Whatever "tickles their ears". (2 Timothy 4:3) Even the mention of that fact will draw ire. For every person who will respond the the 'Truth" and use it in wisdom there are fifty thousand that will ignore it and act foolishly. Because? They NEED to. They will make choices based on the needs of their pocketbook (paint example). They will choose based on a NEED to be accepted by some person or crowd they hold in esteem. They will choose to uphold their esteem. They will choose to support a personal belief or give permission to a particular vice. They will choose based on some need to be spiteful, disruptive and hateful. But rarely will they choose base on the truth. There is even an entire subset of people who don't want to 'think' or "Learn'. They want to be told and allow someone else to make decisions for them. They NEED it to be that way. Perhaps the need protects them by giving them a person or a thing to blame.... So, no, I really don't.....
  19. Truth has a Cost To learn the truth cost, you have to give up one of two or perhaps both things. Ignorance or a previous belief that isn't true. But that isn't the only costs involved. Study cost time. Materials cost money. All of those cost you in being absent in others lives. Sacrificing their wants and sometimes yours to pursue the truth. It can consume your very being. Cost of education is not the providence of those with formal secular education. NONE of those cost can be recuperated. When you look down on a autodidact your looking down on those above you and making a fool of yourself. Nearly every person on earth is capable of very high levels of self education. Thinking you are special or superior because of a formal education only shows how little you learned. Thomas Edison Inventor Developed the electric light bulb and phonograph Albert Einstein Physicist Formulated the theory of relativity Leonardo da Vinci Polymath Renowned for art and scientific inventions Abraham Lincoln Politician Led the U.S. during the Civil War, abolished slavery Bill Gates Entrepreneur Co-founded Microsoft, revolutionized personal computing Jimi Hendrix Musician Influential guitarist known for his innovative style Granted, few will choose to educate themselves because they do not wish to pay the price. It can be humiliating to say I'm ignorant of the facts or what I know is a lie. Yea, it cost.
  20. Gallon of paint says it covers any color in one coat at an application rate of 400 square feet per gallon. Sales guy who used to make paint, test paint and QC paint, points this out to you. Your room is twice that size and as you have but $100 to your name and paint is $60 a gallon you go looking for a solution. You're covering cardinal red with appliance white. Some ex paint formulator says he's got 50 years in this business and knows you can do it on two quarts. All you have to do is add more water to make two gallons. Tells you studies say you don't need that much solid content to cover that color. and Titanium Oxide has come along way in 50 years. Guy in the isle says, "Listen to the salesman. I did and two quart wont do the job." Ex-formulator tells you both these guys are hacks cause all they know is what they read on the can and looked up on the manufactures site. (He discounts there education and experiences). Question. What does your common sense tell you?
  21. Spit-balling here. If one removes half the ZDP and triples the OCI do I have more or less EFFECTIVE anti-wear? I provided a links from a ZDP supplier and a study weeks ago that explained how the changes in alcohols used in the production of ZDP's made less last longer by making the LESS EFFECTIVE to meet goals not in concert with wear abatement. What has been the industry response? ROLLER CAMS. They don't need as much by allot. And what permits the limits cam profiles? FORCED INDUCTION. I see no one reads these papers or if they do and the answer isn't in alignment with ones wishes..... Do ya know enough not to pee in the crankcase as a lubricant? Why? What's missing in pee that it is such a bad lubricant? Yea, you already know the answer.
  22. You see that all the time. Trends are friends.
  23. IMHO, no. Why? licensing requirements of current oils will prohibit sufficient ZDP levels for those motors. As far as diesel oils in gas motors.... there are some issues there as well. Under SL levels of anti-wear (ZDP)and even if one could be found it is not a ZDP is of the same reactivity; read that availability. Dispersant and acid packages are quite different. You're going to keep asking if there is a shelf oil for a flat tappet motor with current licensing and I'm going to keep saying no. Your looking for something with a API SL/SJ rating and the only places you will find those that I'm aware of is in the boutiques. A new motor would need even higher levels and a well broken in one perhaps, maybe, would do okay on an SM oil. I wouldn't but some would, have and have gotten away with it. Ditto diesel oil. Most of those have SM levels of anti-wear.
  24. 72 seems to be the flavor of the day. I, as well, am 72 and pretty happy to be here. But I'm in relatively good health and have what I need so my stress levels are quite low. I am not unaware that a guy may age is incapable of the things my 32 year old self was and like any good old dog have work arounds for those things I no longer can do. I let a young strong back deliver and load my water softener in example. I'm fully aware I'm closer to the back door than the front and I don't find that exceptionally troublesome nor a cause for panic. My mother was my age when she died. Just before she passed and knowing she had but hours or minutes left and just before the put the breathing tube in she smiled, winked and stated quite calmly, "Don't worry and don't be sad, I'll be right back". She was a woman of exceptional faith in God and his promises. (Rev 21:3,4) I remember a gentleman a bit older but of like faith once say, "I have no need of life insurance, I have life assurance", accompanied by the knowing grin age can bring one. Faith is not the possession of all men nor do all men permit the topic in their presence. I get that, understand it and respect every person on earth right to make those choices for themselves. But I find it calming and it makes every day a joy. Peace is more than a lack of war. Thanks for letting me drop in and hearing me out. Have a good day, please....
