  1. Really, that's how technology advances? Learn something new everyday So now you're claiming that he's tuned hundreds (so more than 200) of 2017+ T87A TCMs without using HP Tuners to unlock them? And not one of those people have posted up this information on any forum anywhere? Think about that for a second...the people that have their T87As tuned, via a secretive NO UNLOCK SERVICE no less, are not your average joe shmoe, they are obviously into modding their trucks and would most likely follow some forum somewhere. Only a hack would have the T87A unlocked via HP Tuners? I guess every single person that has tuned their T87A is a hack then because THAT'S THE ONLY WAY IT CAN BE DONE AT THE MOMENT. Swapping the TCMs is obviously a hack - it's pretty much the definition of the work hack. But that's a way around having to pay for the HPT unlock service. It's nice that your friend has so many credentials, but what you have to understand is that you're making a claim that to date is impossible. I'm calling BS on this one. I'll eat my words if it comes down to it, but this is a classic case of "pictures or it didn't happen." AND BELIEVE ME, I HOPE THAT I'M WRONG, BUT MY GUT SAYS I'M NOT.
  2. ??? You know the results before the tune is even done ??? And to be clear, you're claiming that your friend is going to tune your T87A using an Auto Cal (EFI Live) WITHOUT unlocking the TCM? And WITHOUT swapping the 2017 TCM with an earlier 2014-2016 TCM?
  3. Post up your results when it's done. Hope it's not another swing and a miss situation with these T87A units. And Justin at BlackBear, if you see this post, any new news about EFI Live being able to tune the T87A?
  4. Any significant improvement to the performance?
  5. CLASSIC!!!!!!
  6. 6.2L.It's in his sig/info.
  7. I have a 2017 6.2L Crew Cab 8-speed with a Magnuson TVS1900, Blackbear tune, and Methanol Injection if you want to contact me and ask any questions. Yes, you need to run 91 octane or better. At worst, my MPG is 11.5 (and that's with ZERO freeway driving in stop and go Los Angeles traffic...and getting into boost quite a bit for fun). The 1900 alone at 6psi is plenty to put a huge smile on your face - although your truck won't feel quite as peppy as mine because of the lift and tires (I'm stock everything with 20"). Lastly, the stock Magnuson tune is a great tune to start with. If you do feel you want more, you can get someone else to tune it, but there's no real need. I've had a Magnuson on my trucks for 15 years now. The only problem I had was a blown transmission after 10 years. The $2500 to replace it was worth the "pay to play" fun I had with it for a decade. Price-wise, I paid $38500 for the SLT, Bose, heated/vented seats and 2wd. That's all the options I wanted, so I drove the price down. I didn't need 4wd anymore, so I cut it out for the first time in my life. Blower was about $5100 + $800 install.
  8. I haven't ever needed to add coolant, but I'll keep an eye on it. Weird that you had to do it frequently.
  9. Good eye, thanks. The picture makes it look worse than it is, but I'll top it off this weekend. I only about half an inch below the "fill cold" line.
  10. Finished my Alky Control Methanol Injection System. The supercharger LOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVEEEEEEESSSSSSS it and runs like a dream now. You don't see any wires under the dash. This is just a deceivingly low angle.
  11. I'm getting the same numbers with a 6.2L 2wd 1500 and only 6psi, so you're doing good.
  12. Thanks. I bought it when people were dumping them for around $400 - $500 because the MPI2 was coming out, and I had a 20% eBay coupon. I got it from Speedway Motors, so it was a reputable seller. I used 4 of the credits for the supercharger tune and am still thinking of paying for the TCM unlock since I have 4 more credits just sitting on it. I haven't looked on the HPT forum for transmission tunes, but maybe I'll get around to it someday soon.
  13. Those vans look like sneakers.
  14. I didn't know the pro version could log without a computer. Good to know. You have the older mpvi1, correct? I didn't need the pro version when I bought mine, and I was able to get a brand new standard mpvi with 8 credits for $350, so I jumped on it. BlackBear can only tune the 8-speed once it's unlocked by HPT, no different than any other tuner out there. Yes, I know Vector and Trifecta (although Trifecta is iffy according to some) say they can tune the TCM without using HPT's unlock service (probably because they know how to unlock somehow as well). Just so people out there understand, just because you buy an HP Tuners handheld does not mean you can tune your 2017+ 8-speed trans. You still have to have HPTuners unlock the TCM for $200 (the "send in your TCM" method) or you have to buy a new unlocked TCM from them for $400. Question for you. If I get my T87A unlocked, would it be easy to get a trans tune that is already written by someone and install it using my HPT? I have a Maggie TVS1900 on my 2017 6.2L.
  15. BlackBear sends you an autocal handheld. He then asks for the customer to send a read of the ECU and/or TCM of the stock truck using the autocal. He then emails you a tune to install and then you take a log of the truck using the autocal after you install his tune. He then fine tunes the tune using data logs. The logging process is just like with the HPT handheld and computer, however the autocal does not ever require you to have a laptop hooked up while in the truck. The laptop is only used to transfer log files from your autocal to you computer, and transfer tunes from your email to your autocal. I use both the autocal and the HPT handheld on my truck.
  16. Looks like your truck is going to walk away to its left...like out of Disney's Cars or something. Maybe Tow Mater is off screen and they want to get going but you keep saying, "Wait, just one more picture for GM-Trucks.com."
  17. Yet another match made on GM-Trucks.com. How romantic. JK
  18. I'm kind of feeling like I should call BS on this one =) "Jay's Denali" please tell me I'm wrong.
  19. I don't have 1st hand knowledge of Trifecta, but I have read reviews on GM-Trucks.com that weren't so great. If you search for a while, you'll find them.
  20. I really want to swap my 2017 SLT 6.2L hood for the ram-air hood to help with the supercharger heat, but I read that it's not as easy as just new springs and a new hood. Is that really all it took for you?
  21. Yep, very, VERY fun. I'm still trying to figure out if tying the flapper open robs you of some low end torque though. Or maybe I'm having a problem because the truck has a supercharger with a Magnuson tune so any little change that produces a small of amount of negative effect is amplified and felt more than it would have been in a stock truck.
  22. For those that welded/clamped open the flapper or cut it out completely, did you notice a performance difference or a stumble in the engine and exhaust when starting it up or revving it a little at idle? I have a 6.2L with a supercharger and tied mine open for a few days. The performance (mainly throttle response) took a hit and there was a stumble while giving it a slight rev at idle. Maybe a back-pressure issue...?
