Advice on new Silverado 1500 purchase
TNTSierra replied to Jojos's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Turning off AFM will make the truck more reliable and useable. GM has had numerous law suits over oil consumption due to AFM. Why do you think they changed it to DFM? There are countless mechanics out there that will state getting rid and AFM will prolong the longevity of the engine. I’m not hanging onto any issues. It’s a none problem with these engines. Not as bad as the first batch of 07-09 5.3L with AFM which were a nightmare but the 14-18 models also had there fair share. Don’t be naive. And no my truck got better FE after AFM was off and it ran much smoother instead of hunting for V8 mode then back to V4 mode constantly in the highways. https://www.google.com/amp/s/gmauthority.com/blog/2020/12/gm-hit-with-class-action-lawsuit-over-vortec-v8-engine-in-full-size-suvs-and-pickups/amp/ Look, I’m not trying to get into a pi$$ing match with you. I’m just letting the OP know there are issues with AFM and since switching over to DFM. GM hasn’t had any widely known issues like they did with AFM. And yes the 5.3L is a fantastic motor and very reliable and is more reliable if you get rid of AFM. TNT! -
New truck help please...
TNTSierra replied to Jojos's topic in Engines & Drivetrain (V8, Duramax, TurboMax)
Some of the AFM motors do have oil consumption issues. The new DFM 5.3L in the LT, RST, LTZ and even High Country are doing very well. I haven’t read or heard of any issues with it consuming oil. The only issue I’ve heard is the 8 spd tranny having the 1st-2nd clunking. But I believe the 2020s and 2021s have had them mostly figured out. I’d look at both Chevy and GMC and find a 5.3L 10 spd combo. It’s a fantastic power train and it gets respectable fuel economy. Stepdads Sierra is getting 21 to 23 on road trips. Has gotten 24 with it going 65 mph. I have been really impressed with that combo when driving it. Especially since I have a 6.2L and also had 2 older 5.3L from previous generation trucks. -

My understanding is you can tune the custom Trailboss because it uses the older AFM 5.3L engine and 6 spd transmission. That’s what I was talking about. I know it costs about $3k to tune the new engine. I already got quote from performance shop. Waiting/debating if I wanna do that. Kinda hoping price will go down the more Pulsar LT’s they sell and get all the bugs worked out of them -
New truck help please...
TNTSierra replied to Jojos's topic in Engines & Drivetrain (V8, Duramax, TurboMax)
I posted on the other page but I’ll copy and paste here for you as well on this post If you go with a Custom Trailboss and get the older style 5.3L with AFM and 6 Spd you can tune it and get rid of the AFM and never have any issues with that motor. I bought a Hypertech handheld tuner for $300 at AutoAnything on my 2018 Sierra with AFM and it ran so much better and also got better fuel economy, if I stayed off the gas!! And you don’t have to tune it for 91+ octane. They have a regular 87 tune for 11HP and 9TQ. You can also play around with the transmission for better shifting as well. And when you take it into the dealership for work just reset it to stock. I never had an issue with mine going in for work. The new 5.3L and 6.2L truck have DFM and it seems to be better than the old AFM. I haven’t seen or heard of anyone having oil consumption issues like AFMs did. My stepdad has a new 5.3L with 10 spd combo in a GMC SLT and it’s awesome, but it’s very limited on the Chevy on how to get it. Chevy makes you still get the 8 spd on most truck trims for some stupid reason, and that is a coin toss on whether you will have issues or not with that transmission. I can speak for the 6.2L and 10 spd combo. I absolutely love it. It has tons of power but yes if you want ALL 420HP you have to spend it on premium. It’s not a deal breaker for me, but it is “annoying” at times having to pay for it; especially when I fill up the wife’s new Acadia with regular gas and see the price difference. It’s about $12 each time. Not “huge” when your paying the amount of cash for these vehicles nowadays, but over time it does add up! I don’t have any experience on the 3.0L except for driving it and it was very nice. The power was linear and solid. You have to take into affect diesel prices and DEF with diesels. Also over time their maintenance is much higher if anything goes wrong. The belt I have heard is an issue at 150k but maybe with it being out for a few more years local shops instead of dealerships will have a few cracks at it and won’t charge the higher prices that dealerships do?? Good luck with your decision and if you go the GMC route you can get the 5.3L and 10 spd combo in a few more choices. My next truck will be another GMC because they to me they feel more refined and quieter. I had 3 GMC Sierras before this Silverado. -

LOL!! Good point but if I did that I would lose my 0% interest rate. GM isn’t offering that now, and it’s REAL nice putting $750 towards your truck and all of it goes towards the principal. Plus, if I was to trade I’d buy another Sierra. Had 3 before this Silverado, and to me they are more refined, ride better, and are quieter. -

I wish my 2019 had this tailgate. Stepdad uses his all the time on his Sierra. Loves it. For $260! That’s a steal. To add it to my truck now would be an arm and a leg! -
Dealer vs Owner oil changes
TNTSierra replied to Bigfoot98's topic in Engines & Drivetrain (V8, Duramax, TurboMax)
You can claim this all you want but the minute something does go wrong with your vehicle GM will ask you or the dealer where it has been serviced at and if it’s not a GM certified mechanic good luck having them warranty anything. Like I said, GM has WAY more money then you do! For the $20 to $30 difference. I’ll let them pick up my truck do it, deliver it back, and when something breaks, guess what, the records show they have done all the maintenance on the vehicle. As for someone else commenting on being lazy or too fat. I’m far from that, I love tinkering with my truck. Heck my father has a shop, but when the truck is under GM Warranty, you best believe I’ll let the certified guys handle it till it’s up. -
Flush mounted LED in rear bumper footwells?

I’m also down with that. Looks really good and would help with reversing to pick the boat up at night down the boat ramps. -
Wheel Skins for 2019-2020 Custom Chevy
TNTSierra replied to jay33's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Yes, these just fit right over the rim and make it look like it’s the color being represented. Some people are on a budget and if it’s made from quality material and fits evenly. I’ve seen some of these wheel skins look really nice. I prefer to save for the real thing but I totally understand why some do it. To each their own. I’d like to see one of these on a rim because those RST wheels are nice looking design. I’d prefer mine in chrome and 22s. -
Dealer vs Owner oil changes
TNTSierra replied to Bigfoot98's topic in Engines & Drivetrain (V8, Duramax, TurboMax)
I get mine done here at dealership for $67. Full inspection and they pick up my truck and drop back off when I’m at work. Plus, if anything ever happens when under warranty GM can’t come back and state I didn’t have a certified GM mechanic working on my truck. If you do it yourself there is always a possibility of voided warranty. My father is a small town mechanic but not GM certified and even he states just let them do it til after warranty. GM has more money then any of us to try and fight them on that battle. As for the OP....I can’t believe they charge $100 or higher where you live. That’s insane -
No, I called a wheel shop in town that trades out and I traded my factory HC 22s for these and $500 cash. He also gave me 3 years of warranty on chrome inserts. yes I drove the new blazer RS and it was awesome. I needed a third row so I got the new Acadia with same motor and transmission. And it hauls for a small suv. Wife loves it I would love for GM to give us another SS sport truck. They need to get back into the game. They have the ZL1 camaro motor that would fit just nicely in the engine bay

Actually it was 4.942 for some that were earlier models of mustangs. Here is a good article. I found it funny https://www.google.com/amp/s/dr1ven.wordpress.com/2012/11/01/ford-mustang-not-a-true-5-0-the-hoax-is-up/amp/ GM was closest to 5L with theirs at 4.998 with the c/k trucks and cars of the 80s and 90s.

Beautiful truck! And like Bluegrass mentioned. You’re gonna love that engine/tranny combo! Exhaust and intake really wakes it up. Enjoy -
Vinyl wrap on Denali chrome pieces?
TNTSierra replied to grrr027's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
I wasn’t trying to offend you. But yes Denali means luxury but also CHROME! Since day one when it was introduced it has been all about bling and chrome. I love the snowflake wheels and would have them on my truck if I didn’t live in Iowa. They don’t last or should I say mine haven’t. My 2018 wheels where the chrome Escalade wheels with black inserts and they didn’t last a single winter and I washed them once a week. The junk they put on roads here are terrible on chrome wheels. So that’s why I went with the wheels I have. A half and half. And they have a 3 year warranty on the chrome inserts. I am planning on finding an older c/k 1500 to drive during winter and then I will get those snowflake wheels. Just can’t find a nice enough one yet that hasn’t been beat to death. As for the wrapping. My buddy does window tinting and vinyl wrapping. Has machine that cuts it all out. I helped him for about 8 years until I moved to far away from him. I have never seen running boards wrapped before, that’s why I was curious how it was done and wanted to see pics of it. -
Vinyl wrap on Denali chrome pieces?
TNTSierra replied to grrr027's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
I love the chrome look! I’m old school, I think the Denali with 22 inch snowflake wheels is the cockiest looking truck out there. Why get a Denali if you don’t like chrome? That’s what it’s known for? Also share pics of all your vinyl wrappings. I’m curious how you wrapped the running boards? -
Lol. That’s a big stretch. I have a 6.2L. Which is 378 cubic inches. That’s the emblem I would want. Nothing less or more I remember Furd lying to their customers for years stating the fox body V8s were 5.0L when actually they were truly 4.9L. And yes to me that’s lying and deceiving. Go with what is under the hood. Just my 2 cents enjoy your day gentlemen

S&B, Rotofab, or Cold Air Inductions Intake?!
TNTSierra replied to mikystyle's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
I do get that once in a while. And yes, it’s because I believe sucking air from the fender area. I’m used to it and yes the exhaust does cancel it out. -
Getting another one.
TNTSierra replied to leverett.scott's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
That’s the old 8.1L power number with direct injection and other new technology they could get 500 HP out of 8.1L and the 10 spd would be perfect for this engine and even the 6.6L gasser. -
Getting another one.
TNTSierra replied to leverett.scott's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
So your thinking like I have thought that GM should bring back the big block 8.1L behemoth?? I totally agree -
S&B, Rotofab, or Cold Air Inductions Intake?!
TNTSierra replied to mikystyle's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
Engine sound is the main thing. It has better throttle response, and works well with my Corsa exhaust. Exhaust is going to give you the best bang for your buck. When I installed my Corsa driving home from my father’s shop. I set the cruise and drove it normal like I did when I had stock exhaust on and the computer showed 22.1. On way down I checked and it said 20.6. It was a nice 70 degree night. So take it for what’s it worth. It breathes a $h!t ton better now with the exhaust flappers off. They have the most restrictions. My problem is now with them both on I love to hear the V8 (what/why I bought the truck) so my MPGs are not that good??. I’m usually at 18 to 19 ish. -
S&B, Rotofab, or Cold Air Inductions Intake?!
TNTSierra replied to mikystyle's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
I disconnected my battery during install, took my time and it lasted right at 2 hours. Just 2 hours total is all you need it disconnected for. -

Sierra Knob Covers Available!!
TNTSierra replied to IdahoElevation's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
I have a question. Will these fit a Chevy high country’s knobs??? I like the looks of those knobs. The high country’s are just black. Would love to give them a carbon fiber look to match my new trim kit.
