  1. Your 2012 model already has the revised driver's side valve cover (with the modified PCV orifice) installed at the factory. They changed that sometime in late 2010 or early 2011 I believe. I had to have it installed under warranty (covered by a GM TSB) on our 2009 Silverado.
  2. The good: great fuel mileage for a truck, good torque for towing. The bad: increased purchase and maintenance costs and low-rent interior. The ugly: some have problems with the DEF system.
  3. SIZE DOESN'T MATTER. If it did, most of y'all wouldn't have any female seatcovers. Use the right part number as specified for the application! To include full-synthetic oil of the proper viscosity and quantity on AFM models.
  4. It is what it is. Unless it ain't.
  5. If you want a good synthetic oil with a killer additive pack already in it from the factory, you might take a look at Shell Rotella Gas Truck motor oil. (Pennzoil and Quaker State are also owned by Shell.) It contains a modified additive pack from their diesel engine oil, specially made for gas-engined trucks. Works for me. No, I am not a Shell dealer.
  6. This kid is single-handedly proving that there really is nothing to do in Wyoming.
  7. Get your truck key out of your ear. You’ve already been told what the root cause is. Saving a little weight in the name of EPA fuel mileage, and underbody packaging. GM engineers give you 400-500 miles of range on a gas vehicle (if you’re lucky) and call it good enough. And they don’t mind one bit if that forces you into a more expensive diesel model, if you need more range. Now move on, the grownups have real world issues to deal with right now.
  8. No big deal to anyone with any emotional intelligence. Mr LikeARock must be a huge snowflake. Christ Almighty, if you’re that upset over a frakkin fuel tank, buy a Ford or Ram or a diesel or add a tank or drive a Prius. You’re preaching to the choir on here, and GM couldn’t care less what you think you want.
  9. Make sure whatever you use meets the Dexos specs listed in your Owner Manual, in the recommended viscosity and quantity, and change it by the Oil Life Indicator interval, if not sooner. It is my understanding that any motor oil that meets the current Dexos specs has to be "full synthetic". Some on here do their first oil and filter change really soon, with the idea that they're helping to remove any metal shavings, etc, leftover from the manufacturing process. The GM Dexos II and Dexos-D oil at the dealer are actually top-rated. Some on here fight endlessly for AMSoil, Royal Purple, and RedLine, but those can be hard to find unless you buy online. If you're running a diesel engine, many on here like Shell Rotella diesel engine oil, or if you're running a gas engine, many on here like Shell Rotella Gas Truck motor oil, both of which are available at discount stores and auto parts stores. I switched to Shell Gas Truck after using Quaker State Ultimate Durability and Pennzoil Platinum. The new AC Delco "e-core" oil filters (the ones that end with the letter "E") are of questionable construction, with cardboard end caps and filtering material wrapped in a plastic cage--changes made for cheaper manufacturing and easier recycling over better filtering. After much research, I use Wix oil filters now (same as NAPA Gold or Platinum).
  10. Just curious, for the time and $ you'll spend trying to eek a little more oomph out of that four-cylinder, and all of the associated headaches, why didn't you just buy a 6.2L 1500 or Duramax HD to begin with?
  11. Really, StuckUp Guy? You’re calling redwngr a fool, but he’s not the one who was lost. The GM owner’s manual and service manuals are your friends, especially if you own a 2019 truck, which have had no end of problems.
  12. Hope it wasn’t Corona beer.
  13. I work in a gov't office in a secret underground undisclosed location, as they say. No, really. We received a briefing from an epidemiologist in Washington State. He said that if you put someone infected with COVID-19 in the middle of a room containing 100 people, only 2-3 would get sick, and not all of those would die; certainly not for those who were under 60 and who didn't have health problems like heart conditions or diabetes. But if you put someone with measles in that same room, 25+ would catch it. But here were are running around like chickens with our heads cut off over COVID-19, just because the George Soros-funded liberal mainstream media is desperate to hurt our economy, because they think that's the only way they have left to prevent Trump's re-election.
  14. If you weren't smart enough to look at your window sticker or the door jamb sticker, look at your VIN, Brainiac. If it starts with a "3", you've got yourself a truck built in Silao, Mexico. Which is not a bad thing, if that's what you're trying to get at. Several of us have Silao-assembled trucks where the only problems have been with the American-built parts.
  15. Check out TireRack.com
  16. Wix WL10351. Also, Summit Racing online lists AC Delco PF-66 oil filters for sale. AC Delco Dexos D oil from GM Dealer or Mobil1 ESP (Dexos D rated) oil from Mobil dealer.
  17. Shell Rotella Gas Truck motor oil and Wix (same as NAPA Gold) oil filters used here, after much research and experimentation with a few different brands. Just be sure to use a Dexos-rated motor oil and a good quality (NOT the cheapest Fram) oil filter and you'll be good.
  18. How about installing some of those automatic folding side steps, like those from AMP Research?
  19. If it does it especially on cold starts when it is damp out, chances are it's a bad idler pulley or bad belt tensioner. If it's not that, it could be a bad lifter turned sideways in it's bore, scarring the cam as it turns, or an engine bearing.
  20. Is the truck totally stock? How many miles on it? Do you run flex fuel? Engine air filter need changed? I've been told the fuel filter on these is a sleeve-type inside the fuel tank and as such, is not user-servicable. Run a few tanks of a Top Tier brand premium fuel with Chevron Techron Fuel System (not Fuel Injection) cleaner through it. Some of these trucks, even through they are rated for regular fuel, run better on mid-grade or premium gas. If that doesn't fix it, take it to a dealer. If you try to clean the throttle body yourself, you'll probably have to have a dealer use their scantool to recalibrate its position. Some trucks get the spark plugs fouled by the AFM oil usage problems, and this can lead to misfiring cylinders, but that usually is accompanied by a check engine light. If you have that, a dealer can scan for the trouble code(s).
  21. You spent a month in Silao and hated it. And you love to stir the pot. Thanks for openingly admitting your bias so we can all see where you're coming from! Why don't you use some of your apparently ample free time to learn how to use search functions? In about 2 minutes, I found the following on this website and on Youtube: Nope, no automation at all anywhere to be seen, nor any quality control functions, either. Those welds and some other components and assemblies appeared all by themselves! NOT! Nice, modern plant. Employees did not even appear to be riding donkeys to work like you're trying to imply, UAW troll!
  22. This horse has already been beat to death on here, starting with the GMT900s (2007-2013) models. Not one iota of difference, except for political or racial bias on the part of certain observers. The "locally sourced parts" line is bull. Just like the "there's no automation in the Silao factory" line is bull. Go watch the YouTube videos of the Silao plant and tell me there is no automation. You make it sound like GM runs out to Jose's auto parts or the pick-a--part salvage yard down there when they need something. You can get a vehicle with a rattle or a leak built anywhere in the world. Sometimes, it's the luck of the draw. If you go down to Silao, it is a modern city with a modern airport and a big modern industrial area where there are many new plants where they make the axles and the other parts, just like they do up here. Everything is GM sourced and inspected. (Ford, FIAT, and other companies are doing the same thing.) Those are excellent jobs down there, so they get to pick from the best workers. People are waiting in line to work there. Compare that to the current UAW worker mood up here in America--one would have to question the quality of their work when there are so many reports saying the majority of the workers feel like they got screwed by both GM AND their union during the last contract negotiations/strike. I'm as patriotic as the next guy, no--make that more patriotic. I wish everything for sale in America was built here. But that being said, having Mexican-built vehicles in our fleet, I'd have to say that the ones from Silao are as good or better than the "American" ones. The main problems in the Silao vehicles have been with the AFM-equipped engines and various transmission problems, and most of those components were built in America, shipped to Silao, and installed there, so that's not a Silao problem, that's a GM problem.
