Unless you are tuned for the higher octane or have the 6.2L engine, you are wasting your money filling up with 91 octane. Putting higher octane in your truck because you are towing something will not help with anything but making your wallet lighter. Sent from my crappy iPhone 6 using Tapatalk

Really nice looking truck!..........Is the truck on the trailer a true ZR2? I don't remember them being offered with the larger cabs.....Looks like it resembles the ZR5 package that GM offered. To this day, my ZR2 is still my favorite vehicle I have ever owned. I wish I would have kept that thing, it was a beast. 6" suspension lift wit h35's, it would go anywhere I wanted it to. Should have never sold it, big mistake!

I agree that Vortex makes an alright line of magnified optics but their red dots really miss the mark in every sense and are not good quality by industry standards. I purchased a StrikeFire and a Sparc a couple years back for my nephews to use on their M&P15-22's. People gave them good reviews so I took a chance and boy what a mistake. The first thing that came to mind the moment I opened the box was all of those excellent reviews I read had to be from people who have never used, or even looked through a quality red dot. The ON/OFF buttons are terrible design IMO and is a PITA to operate. The quality of the glass is terrible and disappointing for the price. I could not believe how terrible the glass was, the most important part of the optic had green glass. It is like looking through night vision goggles that's how green it is. The battery life is also terrible, does not last very long. The StrikeFire also came with a generic chunk of aluminum they call a mount. For the price range of the Vortex red dots, the newer of both optics, around $170-$200 for the Gen. 2's, there are better options available that cost less for both full size and micro dots. I was actually imoressed with Primary Arms. They are of decent quality and the prices are more than fare. They are also built better, have longer battery life, much clearer glass (not green tinted junk), and come with a more solid mount ranging from $89-$180 depending on which type of red dot you prefer. Though I have never owned one myself, I have used them while firing other peoples rifles, Bushnell also makes a decent micro dot, you can also throw Burris into that category as well. Maybe I am just used to running Aimpoints since forever but that the lower quality really stands out with the other brands, especially Vortex. I could not recommend them to anyone based on their poor quality. I would recommend the Primary Arms brand though, pretty impressive. I have been running their micro dot on a training rifle that really takes a beating and gets banged around a ton. The optic has held up great and has never lost it's zero no matter how bad it gets abused. Do yourself a favor and send that Sparc back when you get it and pick up a micro dot from PA. They have them on sale right now for $89.00! Can't beat their quality at that price point. If you are going to be doing serious work, grab an Aimpoint, you'll never look back. -
When I first read / heard GM was doing a "RALLY" edition, I was kind of excited to see the truck thinking it was going to be a newely released off road truck with a beefed up suspension package and 6.2L engine built to blow the doors off of the Ford cRaptor. This thing is a joke, it looks good with the colormatching, but that's about it, nothing special. This is just another marketing scheme by GM. With the name "rally edition", it should come with a 6.2L engine, larger off road tires on 17"-18" wheels, taller stance from being lifted a little, kind of like the S10 ZR2 package some years back. Slap some stickers on it, paint a few extra parts, slap on some giant rapper type WHEELS, and give it a cool name, nothing special. Total disappointment is what I got out of this.

You guys keep posting these pictures of the new trucks. Going to cause problems with my wife because it makes me want to go to the dealership and get one for myself. I actually came up with a plan I think may work, put a lot of thought into it. I think I can pull it off by renting a garage space to keep the new truck parked. That way everything will appear normal and I don't ever have to bring it home to my garage, so she would never see it. I will not trade because that would be an obvious giveaway so I have to keep both my 08 & 10. Instead of paying for it, (she would definitely notice that money gone from checking account) I can get a loan and make monthly payments. When I want to drive the new truck, I can just drive to where it's stored and switch vehicles and then do the same before I come home. Since all of my vehicles are paid for, I can drop to lower insurance coverage on my vehicles and not change hers. Dropping coverage levels and adding full coverage for a new financed vehicle would only raise the cost $35.00 from where it is now. Since I handle the insurance bill, she would not see that either. I really think I may be able to pull this off! Have to talk to her first and see how she feels about another truck, the above is my back up plan. Sent from my iPhone 6 using Tapatalk -
What have you done to your K2 today?
BlackZ71Silverado replied to block8head's topic in Modifications & Accessories
Before you attempt something like that, you better check your state laws in the vehicle code on tinting limitations. Tinting the windshield in most, if not all states is illegal and may cause you to NOT be able to pass state inspection. I believe the tinting allowed on the front windshield is usually not to go below 4" from the top of the windshield. There is usually a little tinting from the factory at the top of the windshield. Where that ends, that is usually the limit. When I was in high school, I had my front windshield tinted in my offroad vehicle and it sucked. Visibility was terrible, even with the sun blazing in the middle of the day. IMO, it would be extremely dangerous driving at night with the windshield tinted. It's not worth affecting your visibility and possibly hurting or killing someone out on the road because you can't see properly out of the front windshield. If you want to know what it's like at night time having the windshield tinted, try driving with sunglasses on. That will give you a pretty good idea of how difficult it would be to see after tinting. -

Do you have a dog? Looks like a dog used it for a chew toy! -
I don't think there is any lost space at all. The bathroom having it's own outside door is great. Less traffic through the main area and it stays much cleaner that way. You can come in filthy using that door, shower and not have to clean the main area of the camper. Our last one did not have it's own door and I will never go back to not having one. Pretty sure at some point we will upgrade again and that door will be a must.

Never really had a large camper that did not have the awning over the slide so I guess I really don't have an opinion about that.

What did you do with your truck/shop today
BlackZ71Silverado replied to SarahsGMC's topic in The Off-Topic Bar
That happens all the time. Mostly when the filter is overtightened the gasket will come off and stick to the truck. Wal-Mart oil change people are infamous for having that happen then installing the new filter on top of the gasket that is stuck to the truck. Caused oil to leak and poof, blown engine in my aunts 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee! Wal-Mart did cover the cost of the entire job and they fired their "tech" whom had signed the work order. Funny thing is the person who signed the work order is NOT the one that doesn't know how to do an oil change, he was working the counter that day. Poor guy lost his job all because he signed a piece of paper saying the work was completed. The idiot who can't install a filter and caused the issue still works there. -
It's a 2014 model "26C" Limited with double slide outs. Had it scaled at the beginning of the summer fully loaded and it was 6,041lbs. That's loaded with just about everything we need. It may sound silly but the only reason we got this new one is because my 'off duty supervisor' (as she refers to herself) wanted the double slide outs for more room inside. Our other travel trailer only had a single slide and was a little crammed if two people were attempting to walk past each other. She also liked the way this one was set up compared to our old one. Seems like every few years she finds an excuse to want to upgrade. I plan on keeping this one for a long time, it has everything we need plus more and the set up is perfect. My parents made out, they ended up with our 2011 for the cost of the registration transfer.

Black Bear tune vs. Hypertech
BlackZ71Silverado replied to 010Bowtie's topic in Advanced Drivetrain, Suspension & Tuning
They are not even comparable. Custom tune through BBP is the way to go. -
Getting ready to go away for the week.......Again! Giving the 5.3L a little break from towing. When we take the big camper, I use the better equipped truck. The 'ole V-Max pulls my 28' travel trailer like nothing is even connected to the truck. Only down side is the 11mpg or worse we have been getting with it all summer. 2008 Silverado Vortex Max, 3.73 gears, WD hitch. Sent from my crappy iPhone5S using Tapatalk

Looking good. I would seriously think about trading one of my trucks if they would color match the Silverado front end on these new trucks. That chrome bumper and grille on the 2014's are starting to grow on me the more I see it. Good looking trucks you got there! -

Engine ticking with cold start
BlackZ71Silverado replied to GMGuy84's topic in 1999-2013 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
The cold start "tick" (piston slap) has been the norm with these engines forever. There is nothing unusual about it and it will not hurt anything. Any dealership will tell you the same after charging a crazy amount of money. OP, everything is fine, you have nothing to worry about. -

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ See if the dealership wpuld be willing to swap for Z85 shocks. It should ride netter for you that way. Also, whay type of tires do you have and what pressures are in them? People always seem to overlook tires and pressures when the ride is not what they want. Sorry about the Z71 thing, I was looking at "desert" picture with Z71 on the grille of the truck. Wrong person.
-
If that's the case, you purchased the wrong truck. The Z71 is an "off road" suspension package and will not / does not ride very smooth on the highway. Z71 shocks and struts are supposed to be stiff. There is a "handling/trailering package" that GM offers for these trucks. I believe it is Z85, should have looked for that RPO code when you were buying. You can always purchase Z85 shocks if that's what you wanted to begin with.

Before spending that money on a Sitemark nonsence, check out Primary Arms. They make quality products and have a couple really nice 3x Aimpoint style magnifier for a reasonable price, around $70- $130 and well worth it. They also have a 6x's for around $100. I would stay away from that Sitemark crap. You spent a bunch of monay on that EoTech, do yourself a favor and get a good quality magnifier.
