The wires in the column are there you really just need the buttons harness that goes in the wheel and the black back cover with the cutout for the buttons. The easiest thing to do would buy a used wheel with the controls and just swap out wheels. From what I understand thats what most here have done who have made this mod!

Help!!!

I had found quite a few on http://www.car-part.com/. I searched under 08 Tahoe. I was going to order one, but one popped up over here for sale before I did.

Good Luck!

Galen

Thanks Galen,

I just put in dic switch and it works great. dealer told me when i bought the truck it would be $1500.00 and wasn't worth the price. I paid $80.00 and it was worth every penny. Next is the steeringwheel with the radio control knobs. I have only cruise buttons on mine at this time.

Thanks again for your help.

For those of you thinking about adding the switches with out swapping wheels, i'm in the process of doing this right now. Ran into a couple hurdles but so far so good. I made my own harness that plugs into the radio controls and used a dremel tool to cut the hole in the back steering wheel cover for the controls to fit into.

My harness does not have the plug for the radio controls in it so I'm going to have to splice 3 of the 4 wires. Here's where the hurdle comes in. My harness also does not have the light green wire in the main connector labeled "C" which is needed for the radio controls. I'm going to add this wire myself, but need to run to the dealership to see if i can find the aluminum connector that will fit inside the plastic piece.

I'll keep everyone posted on how this goes, so far so good.

Congrats on the job. So the buttons are the only thing you bought, and adapted to your OEM pieces? I would also like to see a picture of the shroud if its not too much trouble.

Well i bought a few things, I bought the buttons, and the metal connectors i used to plug into the buttons. These connectors were pretty easy to find since all i needed was something that fit snugly onto the prongs inside the buttons. The connector that i needed for the plug that goes into the clockswitch was a different story.

I had a very patient parts counter person who looked for about 45 minutes for this very hard to find connector. This is the wire that is not included in our factory harness, so it must be added. It is the one that goes inside this plug (highlighted in red) The part number on this little connector was 15305174. I don't know if that is a GM Part number or a delphi part number, but hopefully it gets you started in the right direction. post-66063-1259816193_thumb.jpg

For the shroud, i took a piece of paper and traced the cutout for the cruise control side and then traced it onto the other side of the shroud. I'll see if I can get a picture tomorrow. The cutout isn't perfect by any means, but you cant really see it because of its location.

Here are the connectors I bought from the dealer. Soldered them onto the wire and then added some heat shrink tubing afterward.

post-66063-1259815356_thumb.jpg

After I added the heat shrink tubing, i pushed each wire I made onto the prongs inside the buttons. After I got them all pushed in all the way, i took some ultra black silicone and filled the rest of the cavity where the factory gm connector would go. I did this to lock the wires in place so that they wouldn't vibrate out or get pulled out accidentally.

post-66063-1259815376_thumb.jpg

Then I spliced the three wires i needed into the factory harness. Re-wrapped the harness with electrical tape and reassembled.

Edit: I belive the part number I listed above is a delphi part number

Cool man, that info will definitely be useful for someone that hasn't done this mod. I myself went the other route, bought a used wheel ($80 on ebay, only it was gray and my interior is black) and had to paint the shroud to match. Thats why I would like to see yours, I just might decide to cut my original one and reinstall it for a cleaner look.

TriumphoverU -

Firstly awesome work. I am trying to do the same thing. I e-mailed my dealer to try and buy the wiring harness and radio switch and on top of quoting me astronomical prices (they won't sell the harness separate from the steering wheel) they also said:

"IF you are able to remove

the airbag without detonating it, there remains the issue of programming the

Body Control Module - the new additions will not be recognized and will not

function without the download from GM. The download itself will not take

unless it is registered by GM for a fee."

Is this a scare tactic? I gathered from your post that this was simply plug and play. Do you require a download? Thanks.

It is a scare tactic, there is no reprogramming needed. Wire it up and go, simple as that.

    • Although there is a "recommended" weight by those who sell trailers, my experience has been that they are way too aggressive in their information, for me at least. My '22 with 6.6 Gas, has a payload of about 3400 lbs and depending on your specs (I don't have 4WD so it has a bit higher Payload than others) yours will likely be different. Payload is one of the most important numbers for towing. Although you "could" tow the max trailer weight for your truck, I, personally, would not go close to that number. Having said that, a lot depends on how/where you will be towing. I live in the LMD of BC and often tow to Denver, Co, along interstates (flat and mountains) and I find I need to keep it in 5th (6spd) for the trip and travel at around 65mph. This is for a trailer dry weight of just under 3500lbs. If you are only doing local, short trips, it would not be that big an issue if you had a heavier unit. You will be surprised how much stuff you load the trailer with, so I would only recognize the trailers "full" GVWR weight rating, then decide on the appropriate trailer from that number. If you are worrying about how much stuff you should be putting in a trailer, you might have too large a rig from the get-go. Once again, depending on what terrain/distance in which you will be pulling. Marv
    • davester, Thanks for the response, how ever, I think I am now a bit more confused than I was before I posted - - After I posted, I actually found a YT video of a guy who replaced his Module (above tire) and he only disconnected the ground cable of the battery, but you describe rubbing the two cables together after disconnecting. I presume that is to do as you describe and eliminate any residual energy? - When I picked up the Module (between my posting and reading your response) from the dealer, I specifically asked about any re-programming and he stated it was not necessary as it was simply plug and play. Don't know how knowledgeable he is, though. - The video I watched also showed the Module plug to be difficult to "unlock" and remove, but there was no mention of silicone, although the video did show a bunch of dust/dirt in and around the plug (old truck) during removal. Are you talking about silicone that was applied by the factory, or silicone that you applied prior to plugging in? Thanks again, Marv
