Need Help With Rail Cap Install - How To Install With The Bed Liner?

I got my rail caps, but do not know how I'm going to install them yet.

 

If I put them OVER the lip of the bed liner, it looks good on the inside of the bed, but the rail cap itself doesn't seat right. See how it is pulled away?

 

If I install it under, the rail cap fits perfectly...but it looks like shit on the inside.

 

A third option would be to cut that lip so it is installed flush to the bottom of the rail cap. Only problem is that it would have to be a perfect cut, or it would look like shit too.

 

Your thoughts?

 

Here's my $189 bed liner. Not the best fit & finish, but it'll do for me.

I would put the bed rail caps "under" the bedliner,This is what I do at work when I install them on a truck with a bedliner in it.

I would put them under, and if it really bothers you cut off the tab

Cut it. It only looks to be a foot or so anyways. But I'd try and leave a bit of a gap between the liner and cap so if the liner shifts any or expands, etc it won't put upward pressure on the cap corner, possibly unsticking it- which will look bad for sure. Black duct or vinyl tape underneath so no silver shines through?

Are those the GM rail caps? When you get them installed, can you get a shot from the side. Im considering getting these and like the way they look from the pictures.

Thanks for all the comments guys. Before going to bed, I told my wife that without any suggestions, I'd install it under just so the rail cap fits correctly. When I get around to it, I'll cut it. If history is any gage, that'll be somewhere around 2014 or 2015

 

I'm also going to make my wife help install them so I have someone else to blame if I mess it up.

Just use the rail cap as a straight edge for your mark and cut with a hand or jig saw, then use a 1/4 sheet sander to clean up the cut edge. it will look great!

I can post it when I get home. You do have the long bed, correct?

 

All I had to do was tell my local dealer what I wanted, and provided them with my VIN. Took a week to get here, but I wasn't in a hurry.

No, I have a short bed but I figured the P/N for yours could help get the order started if the dealer is unable to initally locate the caps. Thanks again.
