i have 3.73 gears but i put 22's w/ 285 40 22s on my truck a few weeks ago, and i lost a little kick.... worth it though for the wheels! what rear end do these new 1500's have and where is the best place to get gears...? i'm looking to run a 4.10/4.11. thanks for any input...! :jester:

4.10s would be about good for what u want. also look into a blackbear tune from justin. little link over to the left. u wont be dissapointed.

Get a tune and keep the 3.73s. You will be happy.

i already have a dyno tune with hp tuners.... i've squeezed about every pony out of this 5.3 without power adders or internals... my dyno guy says to look at gearing or a torque converter...

Well it seems like 4.10s might be the trick.

does the hp tuner get the tm off it?

oh-ya!!! it dropped tm on the engine and tranny side... along with abuse mode... that gave .5-.6 off my quarter. the main reason for this thread was not to talk me into or out of gears... i would like to know what brand others are runnig and where to get the best deals. sorry for any confusion :jester:

I really like the Richmond Gear sets. That's what I put in mine. Summitracing.com always has a good deal on them.

3.73's to 4.10's isn't too big of a jump and might not be too too noticeable. Try finding some 4.30's. They will probably help you out more.

I would go with Yukon's (they, along with Motive offer a 4.30 too.) Always heard good things during my gear research. I ordered all of my stuff from Ron's Machine on eBay. They had the best prices by far.
