I have a code of P0449 Evp. Emmission vent control on my truck. I have replaced the fuel cap. Any suggestions on what I need to replace next?

There is an electric valve associated with the evaporative emissions system.

A GM Factory Service Manual set (order from helminc.com or a GM dealer) would have detailed troubleshooting information for this problem, diagrams showing where this valve is located, and instructions for replacing the valve if it is faulty.

We're in the same boat. Mine's a 2003. I've removed the evap vent solenoid (mine was between cab and bed on left side on top of the fuel tank), disassembled, cleaned, and put back on - SES stayed off for 2 days, then came back on; put new fuel cap from dealer on, SES stayed off for 4 days, came back on. Research it for yourself, but everything that I've read points to needing a new evap vent solenoid. I'm sure that my vapor canister is full of dirt, too. I'm probably going to replace the solenoid and canister with AC Delco parts from Rock Auto (lots cheaper than dealer and local parts stores). I just have to make sure that I order the right parts - different vapor canisters are offered.

I would love to own a GM Factory Service Manual set, hope to one day - $135. Reasonable investment, but with bills, children...that's also a solenoid from Rock Auto. I've got a factory set for my old Ford truck, very useful. My Ford's a '78, going to keep it. I don't know about the Chevy. I do know that my evap valve solenoid was extremely dirty on the inside when I cleaned it, my truck has 120K miles (so it's due for replacement, according to experiences of other owners), and in the past, careful forum and online research has helped me fix my problems. I'll let you know what fixes my problem.

There's a TSB concerning this problem, it's extremely common. GM has a new Evap Vent Solenoid Kit with a long breather hose to stop dirt from clogging it up.

I've had this code for 5 years or more, I just can't seem to get around to doing the fix.

I hear what you are saying about the $135 for the manual set.

I do this all the time with tools. I get ticked I have to go buy a special tool for one repair job. I went through this having to buy a steering wheel puller. I have not needed one for 20 years. Then had to buy one. Then I wound up using that thing about 5 times in the last 2 years!

If I later wind up using the tool a 2nd, and 3rd time, then I feel a little better about buying it.

Of course I shouldn't complain. From time to time friends/neighbors remind me what it costs them to take their vehicles to the shop!
