Glasspack. Keep Catalytic Convertor Or...?

Recommended Posts

so im' bored this weekend and thinking of throwing on a cheap glasspack (cherry bomb or something) on my 2000 5.3L.

is it better to keep the cat or take it out?

also, is throwing in a cherry bomb as simple as just swapping out the muffler or do i need to get a different tip or straight pipe the exhaust?

i was hoping to just remove the muffler and put the cherry bomb in it's place.

also, anyone know the inlet and outlet sizes i'll need for my truck's application?

In California, it's illegal to tamper with smog equipment. But, if your state doesn't have laws preventing it, toss the converter and polute away.

Eah? Canaduh?

No....keep the cat or you'll be riding in a huge noisemaker. Glasspacks sound like hammered crap by themselves.

You'd be much better off with a turbo muffler...they never burn out like a glasspack can.

They sounded good on my old '72 Chevy p/u with a 350, and an old '70 Dodge Coronet with the 440 police interceptor in it. :D

I agree. I wouldn't have them now, but 25-30 years ago they were ok.

Back then I had Casler Street Mufflers. They were one of the first turbo style mufflers made. All my other buddies had glasspacks. Caslers were quieter than Flowmasters but with more tone than the usual street muffler. I have never had glasspacks although I know a few folks who think they are the best thing going.
