Okay I am getting ready to order my low beam h11 hid kit from VVME and need some advise.

Do I want the standard kit, the the digital slim, or even the 55w kit? So confused what is everyone using who has them.

Also do I need to get the relay harnes or just plug and play.

Thanks

I went with the "Digital Slim" "Plug and Play" design and couldn't be HAPPIER. The area behind the headlight is pretty crammed, so the Slim Ballasts really make the job easier.

I second that. I bought the slim kit and it was great. I also bought the relay harness so that the HIDs pull power directly from the battery rather than through the trucks normal headlight system. That harness also has a fuse on the wire that attaches to the battery...which is a good idea.

I just placed an order to swap out the highs, lows and fogs on my truck. This will be my third rig that I’ve done this to. My goal is to have the best lights I can get for seeing large critters that like to wander along the highways in the winter. I hate the look of driving lights and light bars, so that leaves HID as the only practical option. I buy 4300K lights for the highs and lows for the brightest light possible. I hate blue light and find them very irritating when I come up on someone with them. 4300K has a slight blue tint to it, but not like the other kits. I use 3000K for my fog lights. I use my fog lights for what they were intended to be used for – improved visibility in the fog or snow. A yellowish tint helps.

There are dozens of internet HID sales. They cater to the un-informed. Most are scams and not to be trusted just because someone knows how to build a web sight. Be careful where you buy from. I read numerous glowing reviews about Retro-Solutions. http://www.retrosolutionsllc.com/servlet/StoreFront They appear to be legit, and their kits come with a life time warranty. YOUR lifetime, not the truck. You can even transfer this if you sell the rig. They don’t try and BS anyone either. They respond to email very quickly and have answered my questions informatively. I’ll know more in a about a week, as they just sent me an email saying my order is shipped.

I went with the three kits. The Hi/Low are 55W and the fog is 35W. I also bought the relay kit just in case I need it. The guy I was dealing with told me that the new Sierras have what is called “pulsed” lighting circuits. The circuit voltage is pulsed to improve bulb life. The relay kit maintains a constant voltage to the ballast. I also want to keep the use of my DRL. Retro Solutions sells a capacitor kit that plugs into the relay kit. The capacitor ensures the ballast receives the minimum of 9 VDC, so I can keep my DRL.

Depending on when I get these kits, I’ll post back……..

This is what I bought.

1 55W H11 DIGITAL HID kit LIFETIME WARRANTY

(4300k, Other) @ $168.00 = $168.00

1 55W 9005 DIGITAL HID kit LIFETIME WARRANTY

(4300k, Other) @ $168.00 = $168.00

1 5202 DIGITAL HID kit LIFETIME WARRANTY

(3000k, Regular) @ $171.00 = $171.00

1 H11 Relay Wiring Harness HID and Retrofit

@ $35.00 = $35.00

1 9005 Relay Wiring Harness HID and Retrofit

@ $35.00 = $35.00

1 Capacitor for HID, fix for some vehicles

(H11 harness) @ $9.00 = $9.00

$550+ for 3 HID's kits seems pretty steep. I've bought several HID's kits from the same seller for over 3 years and have never had any problems.

Oh yeah, I pay about $100 per kit shipped to my door.

i have the 6000k vvme slim kits in both my sierra and my altima. the output is a world of difference and they are holding up great so far. the slim kit acts as a step down transformer-55w to 35w output- so i didnt get the other harness that goes from the battery to the bulb. and for only 60 something shipped to your house in about 3 days, its a great deal.

Did you also buy the relay kits?

I am willing to pay more for customer service and support. That is important to me. More so than price.

No, 35watt bulbs W/Slim Design do not require relay kits. Some of my kits are 3 years old and still holding up like new. From past experiences I've learned that when you buy Quality products you'll rarely need any customer service. :rollin:

with the vvme slim hid kit do i need to get the relay harness for a 05 sierra?????

Well, if your '05 is the same as my '06, then you need the 9006 kit. It is your choice which kit you buy (standard, digital slim, or 50W/55W upgrade)...see differences here. (and don't worry about the 24V system...ignore it).

The relay harness is your choice as well. I choose to buy the harness so the HIDs pull their power from the battery rather than through the trucks normal headlight circuit. There are people on here who say you do not need the relay harness as HIDs draw less juice than normal bulbs. Either way, you will be fine.

As I stated above, I choose to go with the Digital Slim kit with the relay harness.

Also, a word of caution:

HIDs cannot be turned on and off with the same frequency that regular headlights can. It is important to know that when the HIDs come on, that they stay on until they reach normal operating temp. Then they can be safely shut off. Failure to do this will shorten bulb life.

What I do, is when I am in the garage...BEFORE I TURN ON THE IGNITION, I flip the lever to turn the brights on. That way, I can start the truck, the lights will come on...but I can immediately turn them off...bypassing the HIDs. Also, when starting, DO NOT pause at the RUN position when turning the key. Go from OFF directly to START. This is to prevent your HIDs from coming on, and then shutting off again once you go to start the truck.

Genius solution. Thank you!
