Thanks u anwered almost every question I had... is the 55w that much brighter then the 35w?

Since u guys have own them which actually last longer and is safer to use with my truck and am going to get the harness to be on the safe side

What I do, is when I am in the garage...BEFORE I TURN ON THE IGNITION, I flip the lever to turn the brights on.

Genius solution. Thank you!

It is brilliant isn't it. I had to do that...otherwise the other option was to remove the light sensor...and franklym I bought my truck with auto headlights and I want to use them.

Yeah...20w brighter!

Actually, I don't know as I have not tried both. I would assume that they are...but we need to be courteous to other drivers. Keep in mind that the HIDs...even at 35w...will be brighter than your stock bulbs.

Honestly to answer the 55W vs 35w question...I have not personally heard of a 55w HID bulb. Based on past research, all that really happens is a 35w bulb is forced to handle 55w which shortens the overall life of the bulb. Not worth it unless there is a true 55w rated bulb out there.

There are true 55 watt bulbs. Mine came in the mail last week. It is another gimmick that many of the fly by night low ball re-sellers try to peddle. Some are legit, some not.

The kit I ordered for my fogs is a 35 watt kit, with 35 watt bulbs. They sent me the wrong ballasts (55 watt). I've been emailing back and forth over the weekend asking if I should go ahead and install them, but they were quite adamant that I send the bassists back for replacement with the correct 35 watt ballasts.

yeah, 55w HIDs are 40% more brighter than 35w HIDs but generate more heat... 55w HIDs are not recommended to small fog housings cuz it generate more heat in small area then might melt your housings or ballasts....

some guys get 55w HIDs installed in their cars...in my personal view, 55w HID with relay harness is a better choice for GM trucks cuz trucks need higher working wattage than cars..... relay harness has built-in fuse to protect the entire headlight electric system and prevent ballast overload due to high temperature, power spike, and irregular voltage.

for 35w HIDs, i think, no need relay, it is plug-and-play...easy to install...

go to http://www.vvme.com for good quality and cheap HID kits with relay harness..... I have run vvme HIDs for more than 3 years already....

id stay away from vvme. i bought a setup from them for my explorer and it was nothing but problems. ddm tuning is your best bet, cheapest prices ive found and everyone talks highly of them. my vvme kit was crap. right from the get go one of the bulbs wouldnt fire right. it would fire up then flicker and die, id have to cycle the headlights e or 4 times to get it to fire up, almost like the thing needed to warm up a little before staying lit. replaced a ballast, then the other side started to do it, replaced another ballast, then i had some other lighting issues and so the harness was replaced followed by a bulb. this was all in the first 3-4 months of owning the kit. everything but 1 bulb was replaced. the other thing was i had a hi/lo kit in my explorer that never worked right. it was wired backwards from factory so the hi beam was the lo and the lo beam was the hi. so id have to drive around with my hi beams on all the time to not blind on coming cars too much. i even cut the wires on the vvme harness and re wired them to activate the other way, didnt fix it, did the same thing with the trucks headlight harness and same deal, didnt wanna work properly. they wont get any more of my money. im actually going to look at a 6000k maxcar kit today, a buddy of mine sells them. as much as i didnt want to do an hid in the truck without a retrofit to avoid blinding other cars i need better lights in this thing and i dont wanna shell out the money on a light bar and flood lights just yet. thatll be next years project :(

If I get 55w hi/lo 6000k kit for my 2008 silverado do I need to buy 2 harnesses or will one cover both lights?

Appreciate feedback

One relay harness covers both lights, but, not Hii's and Lows. On my 2010 I even needed the relay kit with the 35w ballasts so my DRL worked fine (lights on all the time).
