I ran into a guy with a '66 longbed, stepside today. It was in the yard, covered with dust and tree sap. Had a few dings, but no rust except a little on the surface. I got to schmoozing him, trying to get it cheap. We talked for about an hour and I told him how I modernized my '65 with a 350/350 combo, disc brakes, power steering, and a new bed floor, and dang if it didn't motivate him to fix up his '66!

My intent was that I would take loving care of that old classic and return it to its former glory (or better) and he could feel good about letting it go to a good home cheap.

Some of the guys at work say that I talk too much and am too motivated. Maybe I should listen to them.

Sounds like you did say too much.  I wouldn't worry though.  People always say their gonna do this, and gonna do that.  Go back in about a month and see what he did.  More than likely, it will still be sitting in the same spot with nothing done to it.

If so, this time you might have better luck.

I will try it again. The guy is doing some unrelated work for me, so I will be in contact with him during the next month or so.

If it makes you feel better I am keepin my 66 in great shape! Just got done redoin all the brakes and motor mounts. I got big plans for the interior.

It bothers me when people have potentially a nice vehicle but they do nothing to fix it up. Maybe he has some financial things to sort out but who knows.

You sound like me, too much of a nice guy to pull one over on somebody...you start thinking out loud about what you'd do and how cool it'd be and the next thing you know the darn thing's not for sale anymore....

Mayeb the guy'll come to his senses before you guys lose contact and make you a screamin' deal?
