Headers are installed

and luckily, only 1 trip into the hardware store for a deep-socket 9/16" socket.

I did alot of the work by myself, but my dad, brother and girlfriend assisted here and there throughout the process.

I ran into 2 snags:  rerouting the wiring coming from the starter so the heat from the header didn't damage the wires on the passenger side, and the air-conditioner and power steering bracket assembly on the driver side

After fighting with all those and jimmy-rigging a spacer on the front-most header bolt to attach the power steering bracket I got it all finished.

Right now I've just got open headers - the rest of the system gets put in on Wednesday.   Holy living #### it sounds awesome. with that cam, it sounds like a freaking dragster at the staging lights

Here are a couple pictures....

There's just something about headers that makes you want to start the truck with them open.  A friend and I put a set on an old Suburban I had a few years back, working 'til the late hours at night in my parent's garage, and we couldn't resist the urge to fire it up.

Sounded great!!  Next morning, my mom was wondering about all the noise.  Maybe wasn't the most courteous thing to do at 12:45 am, but ....

Those sure do look nice in your truck!!

Hahah... no, probably not the most curteous thing to do, but thats one of those thigns that just can't wait 'til morning for :)

Thanks, I too think they look very nice in there.   I need to de-grease under there VERY badly (my passenger side valve cover gasket leaks slowly and I havn't changed it yet).    If it was all cleaned up in there it'd look that much better.

I'll get some newer pics up after a degreasing session and after I get the rest of the pipes up there Tomorrow.

Yep, you gotta fire em up after you put headers on em, or you'll miss all the fun!!

I remember the first time I put headers on a car, it was my '72 Cutlass with a transplanted Pontiac 400...had to buy '72 GTO headers to fit it...anyway, did the whole job at my girlfriend's house, since her dad was a gearhead.  Took me two days, but I drove it home Sunday night, kinda late.  Had to run next to an 18-wheeler through town to try to throw attention away from that loud-ass Cutlass...it was Awesome!  I was SO disappointed when the new exhaust went on and it sounded more like a Cadillac.  Lucky for me they were glasspacks, and blew out after a few months, making all kinds of racket.

Glad to hear you got them on there, you're going to love the power increase.

Hey, thats pretty tricky running with the Tractor to keep attention away from you :)

Oh, I can't wait to fell the power difference - X-Lax if you will.   With the cam, Edelbrock intake, Carter AFB and Edelbrock Air Cleaner on top, and stock manifolds and OEM Mufflers on botom, it felt constipated when I stepped on it.  I got a few baseline runs with my G-Tech (unfortunately, only with no mufflers, not w/ the old exhaust) so I can get a quantitative value for the power increase instead of relying on my rusty old SOTP meter.  I can tell, though, just by revving it to ~2500 rpms sitting still that it can breathe a WHOLE LOT better.
