Transmission Oil Change

Does anybody know on a 704 trans on an 88 chevy 305 how much ATF should you add after the filter change to start with before warm up? It is a 4 speed trans with overdrive. Does the truck have to be driven to heat up the oil to the point you can make the final check on level?

Amsoil's chart says 5 qts initial fill. You could put 4 in and let it warm up a little, then add more, if you're concerned about overfill. Yes fluid needs to be at operating temperature for accurate check.

Measure what you remove and add that much back, then shift it thru all gears several times and take it for a little ride and check the fluid.
