Problems With A O2 Sensor Of My Silverado

Hi everybody!! My name is Harry and I have a Chevrolet Silverado 2000, 4.3 cc Vortec Engine. I live in Santiago, Chile and I need your help you guys.

Well, my truck had a problem with an O2 sensor (bank 1, sensor 2). I replaced it with a new one and we reset that code. After 2 days the fail code (0138- voltage error) it was in my panel again!! "Damn!!" I said.

We were scanning again and showed the same code. I checked all the other sensors and they running normally by except this. The cat works very well, and his temperature it´s ok.

And now the "weird stuff": When it rains, that signal panel check it´s gone!!! sounds weird but that´s true. Well, the rain stop and that code appears again!. This sensor showed a problem with voltage, because had 4 volts, when usually it´s 0,4 or 0,5 the normal range.

I must to say that I used a "chinese alternative" O2 sensor. The original O2 sensor GM it´s very expensive here (around U$300). The question is: This alternative replacement could be the problem?? or any comments ´cause it´weird that when it´s raining, the problem disappear and the check signal is off!.

I know that you guys live in a place where you have a lot of this beautiful machines. Sadly, in my country we have no a qualified people to this, ´cause the most of them, doesn´t know a concrete answer for my Silverado.

My best regards fellas and I´ll be waiting for help to get a solution.

C ya

I honestly cannot remember if the exhaust o2 sensor is a narrow or wide band. Usually you can tell by how much you spend since the wideband is usually the more expensive of the two. All I can say though is have emissions check to be sure your cat is functioning properly. The next step of troubleshooting would be to check wires. ohm out a volt meter and check continuity. If continuity checks out then I am out of ideas. Probably some deep electrical stuff going on. As far the rain and what not

Hi Grimmisnr! It´s weird but I think that water (rain) can cold something or be acting like a conductor of any wire. I checked all the sensors and they´re running normally. Well, I wrote here, ´cause check by a company ....ooooooooooh, there´s its soooooo expeeeensiive here.

I wanna learn all about this topic and I´ll do a new company!! hhaaha. Nah, just kidding.

Best regards buddie, and thanks!

Thank you guys! after 3 months I ve got the problem RESOLVED!!!. Im owner of a Sierra 1996 too. Then I took one of his O2 Sensors (rear side) because are the same O2!!! and I dont knew that. Well, I replace by this part and end of that issue.!! Its important to say to other drivers, that the problem was a alternative chinese replacement.

When you put the new O2, led check engine will be off after 1 or 2 hours, its important as well.

Cheers and thank you forum!!
