well im heading out to meet justin from blackbear for a tune on tuesday the 6th. i have no idea what to expect but im anxious to drive my truck afterwards. i have never had a pcm tune, not even from a handheld. from what i keep reading here i get the impression ill be driving a whole new truck. its a 6.0 v-max and im hoping justin can wake her up a bit. id also prefer to omit the speed limiter. for those vegas binge weekend drives.

can anyone tell me what might be in store for me? also, is there a torque management adjustment on the 07 classic body trucks? or is that just the nbs trucks? thanks

Well the first thing he will do is greet you and say, I'm here to help just relax and take this KY because you'll need it!

just kidding. Make sure you fill up on a high octane fuel. 93 is good. Bring a pair of Adult Depends, you'll need it after he's done doing the tune. He'll ask you all the question that you have listed above. Tell him the type driving you are going to be doing.

Ask anyone on this forum, that Justin has done a tune for, and they will tell you that you'll be very, very happy you did it. The reason for the Adult depends, you'll sh=t yourself after you find out what you have been missing!

Big +1. Justin will clean up your shifts and reduce/eliminate the torque management. Driveability of the truck will be improved and it'll be more fun. Just ask anybody on this forum.....

Edit: I actually attended the Pittsburgh, PA tune meet today just to hang out and meet some guys. Every single guy came back with a giant grin on his face.

Where are you at? How'd you get Justin to meet you for a tune?

If there is enough interest in any geographical area (a 12-15 trucks or so), Justin can actually spend a few days and tune a bunch of trucks all at once. He spent the weekend here in Pittsburgh. This week, he's traveling to another part of the country. You can contact him through his website (www.blackbearperformance.com) for additional details if you want to set up a meeting in the future. Personal tunes are every as bit as good as the mail order tunes. And if he is in your truck, you can ask questions and he can make changes on-the-fly as necessary.

Ah, cool. Unfortunately a few months after I moved from WI people were setting up a MN Black Bear Tune session about an hour from where I lived.

I was one of the guys "with the giant grin on my face"! I got my tune on Saturday, and probably already put 700 miles on my truck....lovin every minute of it. Even improved mpg, just waiting to do the calculations on a road that I have traveled frequently. The only negative, I was harder on my truck while he was tuning in the passenger seat, than I've ever been on it. A few small WFO passes, for a lifetime of pleasurable driving.....I'll take it!

update...

i went and saw justin yesterday, hes a very likable fella. we tuned and talked and tuned. the outcome is my truck runs tighter and foot to engine response is much better. the shifts are crisper and firmer. passing the illegal aliens out here in the ghetto is no issue anymore. it took about an hour. i also had a question and his answer made me feel better. i told him my truck would randomly hang onto first gear a little longer than usual before shifting into second sometimes. no codes present and cannot reproduce the issue. he told me he experienced the same thing on his truck and there was no rhyme or reason for it. oh well.....

all in all im very satisfied and im glad i did it. i kept my stock pcm and the total cost was still under what a handheld would have cost me. for those on the fence still, i know it seems like a lot of money relative to the labor involved but, consider that justin has spent time and money for schooling and training as well as equiptment and software. the fact that he stands by his work and is happy to make any changes you prefer is a valuable asset to me. i would recoomend the procedure to everyone unhappy with their stock performance.
