2008 Silverado & Avic-x910bt

Really interested in this receiver (AVIC-X910BT), but there are a lot of moving parts and I've never done an aftermarket radio install in a vehicle. Looking for some confirmation that I am in the right direction with my research and whatnot.

Parts:

1. AVIC-X910BT

2. PAC Audio OS-3

3. I-Pod Cable

4. Metra 95-3305 Install Kit

5. ???

My goal is a seamless and as close to stock looking installation with no extra antennas or visible anything. I have a deep electrical background so I'm not terribly worried about the wiring itself. Crutchfield recommends the GMOS-LAN-01 but that doesn't retain the steering wheel button functionality I believe so I would need to buy another unit to do this as well as a SPDT relay to get the turn signal noise and such. From what I can tell, the OS-3 kit does everything the GMOS-LAN-01 device does, plus steering wheel and plus the turn signal audible noise. Does this sound correct? When I first started researching, I thought the GMOS-LAN-01 still retained the steering wheel controls but now I cannot see what made me think that. Possibly just an error on my part. I also thought I needed the OS-4, but it looks like that's only really needed for Bose systems and/or 2009 models.

The I-Pod cable...pretty straight forward, nothing to discuss.

The Metra install kit...I'm aware of 2 kits, both a Metra and Scoche (sp?) install kit. It is my understanding the Metra provides a better color match (dark grey) and a better fit, even though a couple pictures of an installed aftermarket radio I have come across looks like there is a small gap on the top of the kit after installation. Agree? Disagree?

My next hurdle was XM. I don't necessarily care about reusing the OEM XM tuner, but I don't want to have to mount another antenna and would much prefer to reuse the existing XM antenna. How can this be done? Do I need to buy a Pioneer XM tuner that plugs into the radio? And then some sort of adapter to plug the stock XM antenna into the Pioneer XM tuner?

My next question was how do I get the dash panel off that surrounds the stereo? Everyone just says it "snaps" off, but I am hoping for a little more direction. I assume it is just plastic clips holding it on that can be easily broken and I want to avoid breaking anything and know exactly what I am doing before I do it. It seems as though there are 2 dash types? An SLE and XLT or something? I'm not sure which I have, but it looks like this:

Obviously without the aftermarket radio ;)

Should add that I don't really have any desire for HD Radio or a Rear camera at this time.

Thanks in advance for any guidance, I really appreciate it.

I have the Avic Z3 in my '99 sierra it was a lot of modification because that model is not double din. I didn't need any module to make the turn signal noise come through the speakers just the GM to Pioneer wire harness.

The satelite antenna is the same from factory to aftermarket so it will be a direct plug in but in order to get satelite you do need the seperate Pioneer box.

From what I can recall the Pioneer head units stick out from the dash a little when used with the install kits so you may have to do a little modifying there too.

The best advise I can give is to join AVIC411 forum you will learn more then you can imagine about them and wiring them.

Good luck!

By the way I think the Avic is one of the best aftermarket add ons I have done to my truck.
