Toyo Open Country A/t Vs. Toyo Proxes

They are 2 different tires. Toyo makes a great tire IMO and I have had both on different trucks. I had the Proxes on a 2wd truck and if I had one right now it would, but for anything that will go off of pavement I would do the A/T's. You could very easily get stuck on grass with Proxes.

Toyo makes great tires.....

.. the Proxes (there are a number of variations of these) are considered to be a High-Performance passenger car tire..

.. the OPEN COUNTRY AT are considered to be a All-Terrain SUV & Light Truck tire

.. so if you are running a street racer, maybe the Proxes are good for you, as long as the load weight rating on the tire size you selected was sufficient for your truck/vehicle .. I'd be real careful about making sure about this.... and I believe the traction would be below expectation on snow or mud....

.. but if you are running a general use pickup truck with 4 wheel drive (as well as pulling a trailer or having a load in the truck once in a while) , MY OPINION is that the OPEN COUNTRY AT tires are one of the all-round best value and best performance tire choices for your truck. Depending on the tire size and load range, the tire construction can include multiple ply sidewalls, as well as polyester, steel AND nylon caps on the tread... very stable, good sidewall protection, excellent heat dissipation from tread, etc......

my toyos have held up very well and show little to no wear after about 25k miles. they are not the best off road tire but i have not popped one yet and i drive through woods mud and all that good stuff

Tire on a multi-use vehicle are always a compromise. A pickup/SUV that see's off-road use and highway use can't have the best of both worlds. That's why they created the A/T tire. Still, the tire selection always ends up compromising on one or more uses.

My selection was the Toyo A/T. It seems very weighted toward on-road use, IMO. I know tires of this type will work reasonably well in most off-road situations, but certainly I would want a different tire in mud, deep snow, and maybe some loose soil situations. Fortunately, I don't get into those conditions often. So, I restrained my urges to buy a wild looking treaded beast of a tire. I have a truck that I did that with and I wish I hadn't gone that far into the aggressive treaded tire arena.

The Toyo A/Ts are very quiet tires. Hopefully, they stay that way as they wear. I'm enjoying the quiet. I don't have a noisy aftermarket CAI, or exhaust and I'm really pleased with the low noise level of my 08 truck. The Toyo A/Ts complement my truck well.

not a great comparison but my wife ran Toyo Proxes STs on her Infinity FX45 in 20's. That car was a rocket and drove like a slot car. Handling was great. Better than the Goodyears that were OEM. 25,000 miles and they showed little wear. Were great handling tires. As far as wet, they were fine. Snow, not so good. As was posted earlier, these are really sport tires. I dont know how they would work on a large truck. I have Falken STZ's 305/50/20s and they are great dry summer tires. Horrible in rain and worthless for snow or offroad. Cant wait to put Michelin A/T MS's on and get some 4x4 back into my 2007 Denali. Love my truck but my tires are worthless........but they wear well............lol.
