09 Gmc 2500hd Vs. 08 Chevy 1500 Bed Deminsions

Well, I took delivery of my new 09 GMC 2500HD with the intention of moving my Leer truck shell from my 08 Chevy 1500 to the 09 GMC. The top bed rail dimensions seem to be different in the tail gate area. The 09 GMC appears to be about 2 inches wider in the tailgate area.

 

I traded in the 08 Chevy and do not have anything to measure for the comparison. The camper shell sure looks like it won't fit properly. Do any of you folks know if I am looking at this wrong? I would not make sense for GM to make a different bed for the GMC 2500HD, but it appears that they have. Anyone else run in to this sort of problem?

I am not sure about the 2500HD, but the 1500's have different beds GMC vs Chevy. I know the bed rails are different.

 

You should be able to go the GMC and Chevy websites and get dimensions.

You are right. I looked at bed rails and bed caps, the part numbers are different. That's what I get for making a logical assumption without getting the facts first. Now I am going to have to figure out how to make the camper shell fit.

The dually beds are different too.
