Extending Side Mirrors

Recommended Posts

I have just come across some of the extending side mirrors that I could switch with my side mirrors. I have the power mirrors with no turn signal in them on my truck now. My question is will the extending mirror with the turn signal work on my truck? I have seen where only the trucks with the extending mirrors from the factory can have those mirrors. Is that true.

You need to have power windows / locks on there for it to work.

Yeah I have power windows, locks, and the power mirrors. Thanks for the link. The thing I wonder about is if the switch does not work can you manually extend and retract them?

Yes, just grab them and go slow and they will extend and retract.

I got the mirrors put on today. I had to put the switch from the other truck on mine to make the extenders work. I only thing about the switch is it is for a crew cab and has the two back window switches and my truck is only and extended cab so I will need to find another switch and one of the mirrors is busted. Does anybody know if I can get the mirror replaced at a local glass shop since it has the heated mirror and the signal in it and where could I find a switch to match my truck.

Which mirror is busted? I have a set of these posted in the for sale section, but the passenger side housing is hosed up so it's really cheap. The glass is still good, though just today the LED turn signal stopped working. Heater works well in it though.

Also, if you had auto folding mirrors, you should be able to get the computer reflashed to use your existing switch.

It is the passenger side that is busted. I took them off of a wrecked truck and the glass is shattered on that side.

The mirrors that were on my truck were just power adjusted. They did not have the power fold or heated. Thats why I changed the switch.

I just ordered a different set of mirrors this evening, so they won't be here probably until early next week. If you'd like the glass from mine, just let me know. I know that I looked it up on gmpartsdirect when the turn signal stopped working today and the price on just the glass for the right side is about $203 (ouch). Don't feel pressured, just want you to know that option is there.

Looks like Muth may have a replacement glass for about $80 with the signal. You might have to splice the wires for the heat and turn signal, but it should still work.

I just talked to the glass shop that is next door to my work and a heated mirror with turn signal is going to be $60.

GeorgiaHD,

Can you clear something up for me...? I currently have heated mirrors and power adjusting but they do not fold down. This sounds like what you had. How much money and how much TROUBLE/SKILL is it to change out those mirrors for ones that fold down? Thanks in advance!

    • This is a really late reply but I just found this thread. They won't sell the hinges. I've gone 7 rounds with them. Their solution is to buy a new cover. I'm about to buy a new cover and it won't be a Bakflip. It also won't be from realtruck.com.
    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
