Strange Noise!

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys!

for the last couple of days i have noticed a clunking noise from the rear of my truck when i am moving slow through parking lots and ect...

it seems to happen when there is a lateral force exerted on the rear of the truck...

i can make the nosie when i push on the truck and make it rock myself...

everything underneath the truck looks A.OK, no signs of metal to metal contact or loose bolts!

anyone else come across somethig like this??

i have not experienced anything lik that yet!! hopefully not ever! it is just strange that i can get it to make the noise with the truck shut off and me rocking it!!

I jacked up the truck tonight and found a bit of what i would call axle side play which could be making the noise i am trying to refer too, possibly a bearing adjustment is needed to correct my problem.. i'm going to be going to the dealer tomorrow after work and see what they say!!

yeah i have and they check out fine!!

it goes into the dealership tomorrow for an auto door lock repair and they will be looking at the clunk complaint have aswell.

i can only assume it is suspension related, (possible leaf springs moving??) since it clunks when the truck is in motion and i start swaying the truck back and forth ( lateral force ), and when i can make it clunk myself by rocking the truck!!

i will let you guys know what the dealership says after tomorrow

Yeah, if it is lateral force, then it is not that driveline clunk.

In one of the threads it talked about the fuel tank causing clunking under certain conditions. Don't know if that's it, but IIRC it said it stopped when you filled the gas tank full. If it is doing it with a full tank, then something else. Make sure to let us know what they find.

I have the same exact problem. I'd like to know what it is also, so if anybody finds out for sure, that would be great
