Should My Front Tires Spin When My Truck Is In 2h?

I have a 2002 GM Sierra 4wd. It was making a noise when I got up to around 100km/hr so I took it in. When it was put up on the hoist and shifted into 2H, the front tires started spinning. There are no codes showing that anything is wrong at any time. One place told me that there can be some transfer from the differential to the tranfer case and this is normal. They changed the fluid in the transfer case and said everything else looked good. The truck still makes noise at 100kph. This doesn't seem right to me. Should the front tires spin when the truck is put in 2H?

What kind of noise is it making??

I have seen all 4 wheels spin in 2hi...same as the rear wheels will still spin if your in neutral

It makes a whining noise like the truck is in 4WD.

How can I tell if it is the encoder motor on the transfer case or something mechanical in the transfer case itself?

Why would the rear wheels spin if you were in neutral?

The pump still builds pressure and without the wheels on the ground its enough to spin the wheels.

take it to some mud and see if it is actually spinning the front wheels...

is it easy to turn the front wheels at low speeds...if so the 4wd is not engaged. (I'm talking about turning as in driving)

+1 normal unless they are spinning at close to the same speed as the rear. With no resistance in the air they will turn, you could put your hand on it and stop it if you wanted to simulate a tiny bit of resistance the wheels on the ground would be alot more then the 20 psi you could put on it with your hand (Note for legal reasons this poster does not condone any moron sticking their hand on the wheel or any other spinning/rotating component not knowing what the result will be ever ever ever ever).

Put it on the concrete, in drive, turn the wheel either way doesn't matter and accelerate. If the front doesn't hop around and lock up you are not driving the front wheels and this isn't your issue, you can put that to rest and move on. If it hops then you are looking in a good direction.

could be a wheel bearing starting to go.

I second that. That is the noise mine made when it went out. A growl, kinda like the noise tires make when they wear down.
