Hi, I'm a newby here, thanks in advance for all your advice- I have a 1999 Silverado K-1500 , I purchased new in 99, has 290,000 Mi, still doing good, In the last few days though, the ac vent selector? (switch that controls air from floor to ac vents to top defrost)- has apparently went out- as the air only blows out the main ac vents , no matter where you turn dial-- My question is , Where would be the first place to look for this problem? switch or ?I've did a few truck repairs in the past, but not sure how these controls operate compared to the older models that I have normally worked on. Thanks, Wm.

Doubt it would be the switch (could be but doubt it) it is more likely the door actuator. Do you know any one around you with a 99 or so that would let you hook their control up in your truck so you can rule yours out?

will try to see who I can get, my brother has a 2001, K2500, can't remember if his controls look like mine or not. does the heat /air panel just unplug or something? Is it very hard to get out? Any tips?, Also, where is door actuator located or should I say , how hard is it to get to? thanks again, Wm.

DO NOT test the new actuator with it disconnected from the air box. It will overrun and become useless unless you take it apart and recenter it which isn't simple.
