Speaker/radio Issues?

Recommended Posts

So this afternoon on my way home (in my 00 Silverado) I was thinking I need to turn my radio up cause my window's were down. Then I knoticed the left side front and rear speakers were not working. They magically came back on, off and back on again. Does anyone have any ideas? It's a factory radio and speakers.

Don't know if there's any particular issue with this body style, but I know in other vehicles, it's been due to loose wires in the door panels or a loose harness. Or it could be that the amp is going out in the headunit. I know, pretty vague---but I'd pull the radio out and make sure all your connections are tight. Factory radios are known for being problematic.

I have an 07 with the same issue. I took off the door panel and checked the power of the wires running to the speakers and I had power. I then had a friend bring speakers home from work and found 1 with the same connection and plugged it into my speaker harness and the speaker worked. I would suggest you start there. Check out crutchfield if you end up needing new speakers. They throw in the wiring harness and mounting brackets free and you might qualify for free shipping. A much better deal than bestbuy.

I'm thinking it is a wiring harness issue. Today, all four speakers went out for a short time...maybe 30 sec-1 min. Then thecame back and it played a back and fourth game from sided to side.

If you're still running all of the stock gear my money is on the radio....the only common factor in the wiring harness would be where it's plugged in behind the radio so check and make sure it's not loose. I'm surprised the factory speakers are still working at all actually. When it was doing it's back and forth thing was anything unusual happening on the headunit display?

on the radio subject the light for my vol/pwr button/knob is out. is there anyway to replace the bulb? i am guessing no since they are probably LED's. it just upsets me that 40k miles and the bulbs are burned out! i really dont want to replace the unit for this one issue but everytime i drive at night i see that missing light(or dont see it) and it bugs me to no end.
